The flight was a once in a lifetime experience.. we were lucky enough to see two whales, one of whom hung around for quite a while. Seeing such magnificent creatures on their own turf was a magical moment which we won't forget any time soon. I was initially apprehensive about whale watching by air (as opposed to by boat). Though... More

We think this 30 minute flight is probably the best way to see the whales. You obviously don't get as close as the boats but the perspective is brilliant. We saw sperm whales and a humpback that obliged with two breaches as it played with it's dolphin mates. While Kaikoura recovers boat bookings are pretty full and flights seem to... More

You can look at whales by boat, helicopter and plane. The boat only runs three times a day now due to the upheaval of the land under the sea which restricts the boats from getting in and out of harbour (they use to run ten to fifteen times a day). This means they are often fully booked. On the Saturday... More

The staff was very professional and polite. They welcomed us into their beautiful facility. The pilot was Jesse. Using picture slides he gave a short and interesting talk on the geology and why the whales live here and which kind of whales we might see. He was very good at picking clues to where the whales might be and flying... More

I had a great 30 min flight with pilot Edward of 'Wings over whales', looking for whales near Kaikoura. Saw a blue whale and a sperm whale. Amazing experience!

I got burned by the whale watch boat company as well. Thankfully Wings Over Whales offers a great and completely unusual experience. You get your own window seat and the pilot makes every effort to make sure everyone gets plenty of chances to see the whales and dolphins. The views of the Kaikoura landscape were also gorgeous. Great pilot. They... More

My husband and myself booked this trip as unable to do the boat trip. I did not want to miss out on the seeing the Whales, but was dubious about flying in a light aircraft. After reading the many positive reviews for this company, we went a head with the booking. We were given a very informative talk on the... More

A trip to kaikoura isn't complete without a trip with wings over whales. I would describe it as a once in a lifetime experience....but I know I'll be back again! It was so incredible - fantastic value for money and the whole experience from booking on the phone to stepping out of the plane at the end was flawless. When... More

We had a great time on our flight and were lucky enough to see two spermwhales and heaps of dusky- and hectors dolphins. Before our flight we were briefed on safety as well as receiving information about whales, which was great. Our pilot Eddie truly made this flight one of the best so far! Thank you. 5 stars from Tomas,... More
