Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

My e-Ride experience was amazing! After not having been on a bike for along time I felt a little nervous but they say “riding a bike “ is like a duck to water!
You never forget!
Richie was great at setting the bike so it fitted me perfectly for size and comfort. He then explained very well how to operate it and made me feel confident and keen to try.
The extra power was amazing…. Gives you the option of cycling and working out or sitting back and cruising like on a scooter🤗 a combination is good!
Biking along the beautiful Kaikoura peninsula to the seal colony ( how could you beat the view)…. It made me feel free like a bird and privileged to live in such a beautiful place!
We then made our way up Torquay street to the lookout! A good way to test out the gears and the pedal assistance … getting up the hill was so easy! Not like the biking I remember!
Coming down was another experience….. good practise for the use of my brakes! A glide down the hill and back along the coast to Ksikoura township.
Awesome experience !
Thanks Richie. We will definately be back again!
Big thanks from Karen and Mark 🤗

Having hired some eMTBs already during our New Zealand road trip, we were keen to explore the beautiful Kaikoura coastline on bikes. During an afternoon stroll through theTownship we got talking to Richie the owner of eride a really pleasant and friendly guy who gave us some really useful pointers on how best to explore the area on 2 wheels.

We hired a couple of his e-bikes which (as a fairly new business) were in great condition and well priced compared to our other hiring experiences. The bikes are sturdy have a good battery range and have 5 levels of power, more than adequate to cycle any terrain around the Kaikoura Peninsula.

As well as the cycling side, Richie gave us some other tips for eating and drinking in Kaikoura. A really pleasant experience all round and would highly recommend the bikes to anyone planning to explore the stunning scenery Kaikoura has to offer!

Best of luck Richie as you continue to develop further tour options!

It was our last day in Kaikoura and we needed to fill in four hours between checking out of our hotel and catching the train to Christchurch.
We were told about a seal colony a few kilometers the other side of Kaikoura but being the wrong side of sixty walking there was not really an option in the time available. To be honest it was not an option if we had a month to get there! The taxi situation in Kaikoura is dire.
Electric bikes seemed a good idea if we could source some, and a quick dive into the inter-web brought up Eride Kaikoura.
We had by some miracle and the help of our hotel got a shuttle into town with our heavy suitcases and rucksacks where we hooked up with Richie, the Eride Kaikoura proprietor. He was happy to let us leave our baggage at the premises and then fixed us up with two state of the art E bikes. After a bit of instruction on the reasonably simple controls, we wobbled around in the adjacent car park getting the hang of the bikes and then set off on our mission.
We whizzed along effortlessly until we spotted a cafe and popped in for a cuppa. Our arrival provoked some interest in the machines from another older couple of residents and to cut a story short they obviously hooked up with Richie hired a couple of bikes from him and as we finished our tea break and set off at a sedate 20 KPH, the other couple shot by us doing at least 35 KPH. When we caught up with them, they had decided they were going to buy one each!
Anyhow we had the bikes for four hours, they were great fun and don't tell Richie but I got 45 KPH out of mine on the way back, best fun I have had in years! Nice one Richie!
