Our group of over 65s found this 4 day 3 night trip challenging but enjoyable. Lots of interesting land formations and flora and the Waiau-toa River is beautiful. Lovely views of Mt Tapuae-o-Uenuku . The team have a focus on conservation, checking traps etc which is great. Lots of good food - some cooked over an open fire - and very capable staff. Thanks Ruby, Cody and Bree. We enjoyed the 4wd trip into Quail Flat over the Seaward Kaikōura Range. We can recommend staying the first night at Muzzle Station Shearer’s Quarters especially if the weather is wet though we slept ok in our tents the other two nights The paddling is not too hard and there are regular breaks over the day. We did get wet in the end but life jackets and Ruby saved the day!

It was a miracle we had such good weather, but the best part of the trip was Grace, Samson and Felix (the tour guides). An impressive demonstration of expertise, and leadership and team work. We had a mixed group of travellers and we had fun, adventure, and we were pampered! Ok so we put up our tents, but you guys dug the dunny holes, set up the camp kitchen, smoked the camp site out, went to bed first and were up first - as a team you were all in sync with keeping everything on time. A good example of the importance of enjoying the work you do! They shared some of their own intrepid adventures when they aren't at work - anyone going on this trip is in good hands! A great set of travel buddies and good idea to swap around in your rafts. Lots of mayhem kept us cool on a hot day, when we changed raft seating, having younguns against oldies, and girls against boys; when a couple of hard core battlers had an unplanned exit from the raft! Still smiling.

Our trip down the Clarence was outstanding. It was very well organized and the guides were brilliant. I highly recommend it as a family activity that is achievable for many different age and fitness levels.

From 31 October to 4 November 2022, 13 of us, ranging in age from 56 to late 60's did the 5 day rafting trip, a total of 198km on the Clarence river. We had an amazing time, the rafting was heaps of fun and the scenery was phenomenal. The guides Ruby, Paloma, Siena, Bruce and trainee Kayleigh worked really hard to make our trip really enjoyable. They were excellent guides on the river and amazing cooks on the land. The food produced over a fire was outstanding. It was a great time to appreciate nature and be away from the kaos of normal life and electronic devices.

Last week we did a 6-day trip rafting the Clarence River.
The scenery was spectacular and the rafting was great fun. Our guides were outstanding - such hard workers and excellent cooks. The skill with which they steered the rafts in the river was impressive, with just the right amount of rodeo-style bumps and splashes of freezing water 😲
Thanks so much to guides Emerson, Bruce, Joey, Jonno and trainee Sophie (the risotto queen). Also to Ben who made sure everything ran like clockwork.
Highly recommended 👍

Can’t rate it highly enough.
The trip was so well run, the guides were highly skilled at steering the rafts, knowledgeable about the land, and cooking delicious meals over an open fire. (Beautiful risotto, roast chicken and gravy, incredible beef stew with wine and an orange) Not at all commercial, our guides felt like friends.
Do bring warm clothes for camp, and backups for the river, because they will get wet, and unless it’s summer, frozen socks aren’t so nice in the morning. The guides bring extras of everything, so no fears there.
I loved watching how elegantly the guides managed the boats, and learning how they choose the routes. Interesting information about the Kaikoura earthquake, seeing the fault line and how it affected the course of the river.
Thanks so much Emerson, Bruce, Joey, John-O, and Sophie.

8 intrepid 60 year olds, stepping into the unknown... we weren't entirely sure what we were letting ourselves into, but the four days on the water was just brilliant. Great guides, great food, lovely campsites, beautiful peaceful scenery, lots of fun. We had 3 guides for the 8 of us, 1 raft full of all the gear required for camping, cooking boating, and 2 rafts for us. Tents were 3 person for a couple and 2 person for a single. Mattress is blow up, but surprisingly comfortable. Sleeping bags were great, and each came with a liner. River is grade 2 - excellent for inexperienced bods like us, but you will still get wet. The gear list is quite sparse so don't be afraid to ask Ben for advice. We did this mid March - we had all weathers, so cannot stress enough to take lots of warm layers. Gloves and hats too. And keep some dry extras for camp life. Take a pillowcase or small pillow. Plenty of sun screen for faces, lips and hands - reapply often - your skin takes a hammering. Plastic bags of different sizes useful, and take wet wipes for toileting/hand cleaning etc. Good torches essential. Your phone only good for taking photos. Go for it.

Haven’t camped for 40 years so had a hissy fit when my husband accepted this. No loos and no hot showers! Well I LOVED it. Experience of a lifetime. Fantastic scenery. Wash in the river, well run ablutions and great camping equipment. Slept well. And the food!! Yum! Experience of a lifetime. Thanks to superb guides Clinton, Ruby, Ruben and Scotty.

We were a group of 8, mainly retired people, on a 5 day, nearly 200km rafting trip, with guides Clinton, Gus, Jarron and trainee Shepherd. The safety training and information given by our guides was superb leaving us very confident for a great journey. The food throughout, Breakfasts, lunches and Dinners was fantastic, varied and delicious including the wine, especially after a good day. The camping sites, camping equipment including air beds and sleeping bags were very comfortable and covered all our needs. The scenery was spectacular, as it changed from the very dry to Bush clad slopes, geological fault lines and coastal plains. The river was varied and exciting, some gentle stretches and shorter Rapids, with rafts manoeuvring over these easily. We found the effort required wasn’t too strenuous. I would recommend this trip and company to anyone who wants to get into the outdoors, where otherwise you wouldn’t be able to go, with professional qualified and personable providers. A great team, a great trip!
