Kaikoura Helicopters Extended Whale Watch flight

Within minutes of taking off from our beach from helipads, you will be in the spectacular environment that plays host to one of the worlds largest marine mammals, the magnificent Sperm Whale.
This flight allows you extra time in the whale area to view these majestic creatures of the deep. This also gives you the possibility of viewing dolphins for just a little extra

- A better option for when the whales are feeding further off shore or are holding their breath for longer than expected

- More chance to view any transient baleen whales - these whales typically spend short surface intervals (one to 4 breaths) followed by long periods under water (often 2-5 minutes), the longer flight time gives us longer wait for them.

- Depending on the location of the Sperm whales, gives us more time to search for dolphin and /or fly along the Kaikoura southern coastline on our way back to land.

Bill Smith was amazing-did a whole sheep shearing show just for me! Very informative about the sheep and wool. Was great to meet Beau-the sweetest huntaway dog. A must do if you're in Kaikoura!

If you have 15-30 minutes to spare in Kaikoura, take a 5 minute drive out to the Kaikoura point (seal colony), and visit the Point Sheep Shearing Show. The show is very informative as Pete explains the history of shearing at his farm, information about the shearing and fleece cleaning process, with 2-3 sheep dogs there to help out. It's a great family event, highly recommended.

This was great fun to watch and also very informative. You are shown all aspects of sheep shearing, as well as being able to bottle feed a lamb.

I just happened upon this place while walking to the seal colony and was glad I did. They have two shows a day, one at 1:30, the other at 4:00. They take you into the barn where they explain a bit of the history and details of shearing sheep, letting you feel the different kinds of wool and showing you the tools. Then, once the shearing was finished, they handed out bottles and we got to feed the lambs. It was a fun way to spend about an hour and was a bit of serendipity coming across the place at the right time. I'd recommend for anyone who wants a bit of a different experience other than the typical tourist attractions.
