Stopped on our cycle trip. Even had a swim. Water is so warm. Make the stop at Picnic Point it is worth it and saw White Herons there too.

DOC camping site beside the lake, listen to the birdsong and the sea as you take the easy walk by the lake, interesting history here as this was a thoroughfare for travel between Ross and Hokitika along the waterway.

We drove past this but turned back and I am so glad we did. We made a short drive through native bush to the lake with the mountains in the background, stunning scenery.

Close to the main highway south of Hokitika is the access into the lake. The access road is very pretty like a glade of native plants. There is plenty of free parking, toilets, picnic tables, camping area and paths accessing the lake. We saw a...More

Beautiful lake one car in the car park when we pulled up beautiful place with the reflection in the water. Very popular in summer nice place to camp for the night or a few days and enjoy the beautiful area.
