Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Went back here after 19 years since my last visit. Still a beautiful place you can no longer walk all the way along the wooden pier type structure which is a shame. It meant I couldn’t recreate the photo I took many years ago. It’s a lovely place when the wind and rain aren’t there are you get a great reflection. Nice walks. Worth the short drive from Hokitika.

Easy to get to from Hokitika it's a short drive into the Lake. If ever you wanted peace and quiet this is it. Your only friends are the sandflies, but they don't get in the way of the view along the Alps. With a few static displays of past history, it's a great stop, up or down the coast.

This beautiful lake is best visited on a wetland cruise up the Mahinapua River, or via the West Coast Wilderness Trail, but there is a picnic spot for those in a car.

Pretty lake with nice views around the shore. There's an old boat stored in a shed - pretty much ruined but gives an idea of the steam boats that travelled the lake at one stage. Generally the area is well maintained and worth a visit

We were trying to find a picnic spot with cover as it was raining. There were a few campers around but everyone was friendly. Did a wee bit of a walk but would have liked to do more. Beautiful scenery

You can get a good view of Lake Mahinapau from the tree tops walk. You can get the best views from the tower but can also get good views of this from the cantilever section of the tree top walk. Grab a photo of it as its very nice scenery.

Interesting area and facility where one can walk safely among the tree tops and see what goes on up there. Great view over the lake and up to the mountains

The Tree Top walk was very interesting as you get to overlook the enormous trees. There is also some good wildlife about. A great place for photography.

The Treetop Walk was awesome. I really enjoyed the view. It was cool how they had information about the wildlife and plants, also the history was interesting. I really recommend this place.

This is a truly magical place - a quick drive about 10kms south of Hokitika. I always visit here if I am working in Hokitika and have some time to spare. The drive in and out (separate driveways) to the Lake are through beautiful dense native bush which opens out to a sheltered grassed area by the lake. The birdlife is great - fantails will often swoop down to catch the insects we humans disturb. A tranquil and beautiful spot.
I can't believe that camping is allowed in this lovely spot. There is a toilet block. No cell phone reception.
