- Linda BChristchurch, New Zealand10 contributionsDefinitely worth a visit! This is a free attraction (donations only) and so worth a visit! The various sheds were so well set up! A big credit to everyone involved. Absolutely everyone we talked to there was so knowledgeable and friendly and only too happy to chat. Great place to visit on a rainy day as it's undercover.Visited March 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 2 April 2023
- GemGem50 contributionsExcellent hands on funWhat a neat place to explore. Good for a rainy day (although note that the train rides don't happen when it is wet) there is plenty to see and do. Our kids had such a blast in the room with all the old equipment where a volunteer in the room spent considerable time teaching them how all the old sewing, wool spinning and weaving equipment worked. Very hands on and interactive. They also loved the fire engine museum. Especially getting to dress up and enter all the different engines. Nothing was off limits which was so neat to experience (our local park like this you can't get anywhere near the level of close up learning because everything is do not enter, do not touch) so this park certainly blew their minds. All the people on site were so friendly and knowledgeable and wanted to take the time to share what they knew, a gentleman put on a show for us in the engine room, and another took us to tell us all about a fire restored truck and let the kids pretend to drive it. We had a really good time here. Definately worth a visit.Visited April 2023Travelled with familyWritten 7 April 2023
- Janette K113 contributionsFull of surprising treasuresGreat rainy day activity experiencing the Repair shed for engines livery and boating relics of the past illustrating mining and timber milling industries and the way of life from the mid 1800s. Highlights were the range of fire engines across the decades and the guided tour by Gilby with all his stories to bring the exhibits alive. Highly recommend. Great place, very much a work in progress, with one very impressive modern display shed giving you a taste of what is to come. Lovely, skilled volunteers only too happy to talk about what they are doing. I left feeling very guilty for getting basically a private tour with interesting stories for the price of a donation. Note: open Weds and Sat to 3pm, take cash.

This park is amazing. Run entirely by dedicated volunteers it's a record of West Coast engineering history. The light show in the steam engine shed is awesome, the fire engines, sewing machines etc, and for those who like a little more interactivity there's the miniature Mudfish railway on Saturdays. Too many displays to mention here, go see it for yourself (Wed and Sat)

A west coast stop for fans of vintage machinery should include the Westland Industrial Park. An ongoing project of area volunteers, this collection of buildings near the airport, houses a variety of equipment of the past. Mostly construction equipment, small utility boats and motors, local fire engines and commercial vehicles are included, plus a few Caterpillar crawlers and specialty tractors. A miniature railway is under construction. which will add appleal for visitors with young children. My favorite was an American built stagecoach that was used used the route between Christchurch and the west coast during the goldrush. What a thrilling and terrifying ride! Friendly volunteers welcomed us to tea. Fans of vintage machinery are the same all over the world.😁 Check out the heritage park web page for more details.

Still a work in progress, but the volunteers who make everything happen at the Heritage Park are amazing! Vast breadth of knowledge among them, and they have so many amazing tales to tell of the displays and the history of Hokitika in general. Look forward to visiting again.

The Westland Industrial Heritage Park is part of the heritage walk in Hokitika. It’s an interesting place to see old machinery and talk to the wonderful volunteers that work on the bits of history. My personal favourite were the old fire trucks! Entry is free, but it’s definitely worth giving a donation to.

We visited the park in a cold wet winters day and were welcomed by a group of friendly volunteers. We were shown around by one gentleman who had a wealth of knowledge about the different machines and it was a fantastic experience. Our 3 year old loved all the different fire engines and especially the opportunity to sit in them. Thank you for the friendly tour and good luck with all the plans for the future, we will be sure to visit again!
