Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Back again to this wonderful shop. 1 large platter, 3 yellow penguins, a paua shell and 2 tumblers. Oh wait, Kirsty we went back on Wednesday and bought 2 cats! All the unique pieces are made by the glassblowers on the premises and are of high quality. We'll be back!

The glass blowing studio was easy to find in the main part of town. They had a beautiful selection of objects: mushrooms, penguins, vases and glasses. It was interesting to watch the craftsman making a glass kiwi.

Unfortunately the glass blower was not there on the Sunday that we visited, however the young girl in the shop was an exceptional host, and salesperson. I don't think that it was expensive, considering that it is all hand made. I love my two penguins and platter that I bought.

My family had opened a few cabinets and collected a number pieces of glassworks (such as birds and swan), just like other shoppers did. We wanted to shop more because we love New Zealand and wanted to support the country in whatever tiny contributions. When we opened another cabinet near the counter, the old woman all of sudden stopped us and shut the cabinet. “Not for sale!” She exclaimed. I asked her why she didn’t lock the cabinet and take away the key? “None of your business! I am not going to takeoff the key!” She responded. We didn’t want her to continue yelling in front of our kids, so we left our shopping on the counter and prepared to leave. “Oh good!” The woman said. HOW RUDE!!!

We visited this store with intentions of purchasing a wee momento to take home and love to support as many shops as possible, but the lady on Saturday morning was so rude, and couldn't even say good morning or smile! when we entered. We asked are you open, is it ok to come in and she just grunted at us. Beautiful glass work, we loved it but left with nothing because we felt like we where interrupting her day!

Went to hokitika glass studio last year but didn't buy anything there was so much choice. Went back today having had a year to think about it, I bought a beautiful poutini basket, my husband a family of penguins, if fact everyone in our party bought something. This place is a must to visit, you can watch the glass blowers at work, admire the beautiful finished product, and of course buy a treasure. Kirsty served us and was so helpful and knowledgeable. See you next year!

Great glass pieces. Loved them, bought a couple. BUT the service left the worst impression. Asked a question, do you have any bunnies or dogs? Curt answer from woman minding the place: "we don't do dogs". Note they do have glass pieces of cats. Definitely felt unwelcome. Made my purchases and left. Loved the pieces but won't go back again ever. I read all the reviews about great pleasant staff and wondered where they were!

I visited their website before I went to the shop. Thought to myself I have nothing to buy.. but since I passed by it along the way, I popped in to take a look. Never did I expected to be so attracted to the sea green koru that I bought not just one, but a set of three!!! That's $135, and they now sit prettily at my display shelf. Didn't regret a single bit! Do go in and have a look yourself!

Beautiful studio and showroom. You can watch the glass blowers as they work (it's fascinating!), and they sell the most beautiful pieces in the gallery. Prices for little animal figurines start at $20 - very reasonable compared to some we've seen! Worth a visit.
