Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

The glass blowing studio was easy to find in the main part of town. They had a beautiful selection of objects: mushrooms, penguins, vases and glasses. It was interesting to watch the craftsman making a glass kiwi.

This place would not be for young children, very fragile and expensive items here. There wais a person glassblowing at the time we went which was fascinating (but no photo’s allowed).

It was a great experience to see them at work and creating masterpieces. Unfortunately the lady that answered the phone when I called for info was not friendly at all, she should not be working with the public at all.

We visited this store with intentions of purchasing a wee momento to take home and love to support as many shops as possible, but the lady on Saturday morning was so rude, and couldn't even say good morning or smile! when we entered. We asked are you open, is it ok to come in and she just grunted at us. Beautiful glass work, we loved it but left with nothing because we felt like we where interrupting her day!

Great glass pieces. Loved them, bought a couple. BUT the service left the worst impression. Asked a question, do you have any bunnies or dogs? Curt answer from woman minding the place: "we don't do dogs". Note they do have glass pieces of cats. Definitely felt unwelcome. Made my purchases and left. Loved the pieces but won't go back again ever. I read all the reviews about great pleasant staff and wondered where they were!

The glassware is mindblowingly beautiful! Also affordable - a great memento of your visit to Hokitika! They also do Memorial paperweights with ashes of the deceased.
Although the shop is open 7 days a week, it is well worth a visit Mon - Fri when the glassblowers are in residence and you'll be spell-bound watching the creation of the beautiful pieces - really loved the penguins and the stunning poutini baskets.

Such beautiful pieces of art. So many pieces I wanted to bring home with me but ended up restraining myself and buying 2 penguins. Staff very friendly, packed my ornaments very securely. Very clean place.

Unfortunately the glass blower was not there on the Sunday that we visited, however the young girl in the shop was an exceptional host, and salesperson. I don't think that it was expensive, considering that it is all hand made. I love my two penguins and platter that I bought.

Hokitika is a small town along the NZ coast. We stopped for a break from the drive. The glass studio is lovely though prices for the more interesting pieces are a bit pricey.
