Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

The lady making the coffee was Lovely - very friendly and cheerful. The setting in the Art Deco Theatre foyer is perfect.
We sat outside on a hot morning watching the world go by while we enjoyed excellent coffee.

Some nice examples of Art Deco buildings in Hokitika, particularly the theatre. Nowhere near as ubiquitous as in Napier on North Island but worth stopping for a look see. Tbh we just drove through Hokitika and took a few photos (also the Clock Tower) as we had to press on to Franz Josef.

Quick pit-stop planned but after getting brewed coffees at Regent Theatre decided to do a quick lap of town. What a pleasant surprise! Empty beach with grey volcanic sand. Lovely old church a mere block away, and a real vibe of a gold mining town. Worth a visit.

We came here with a 10 & 13yr old to watch a movie. The guy at the counter had great banter related to the purchase of a bucket of popcorn. A story that I’m sure he’s told hundred of times, but it didn’t matter. We went in early, and saw the ending credits of the earlier film as there weren’t any patrons remaining. The cinema is huge! Lovely restoration and reminded me of movies as a kid, so much space I couldn’t even reach the row of seats in front to rest my legs on if I wanted to!
We’ll be back for more films on a rainy day.

We popped in to see what was playing and it didn’t suit my 6yo... so they said they would message us if no one turned up for cats, and they would play something else!! They did message, and someone did come for cats but I really appreciated the follow up and attempt to modify the schedule. Now, that’s service.

We didn't get to watch a movie but passing through Hokitika Winter 2018 decided on pies for lunch... OMG , these were the freshest and best tasting pies we have ever had and we've tied many.

The tiny town has a movie theatre right out of the “movies”. Locals volunteer with maintenance. There is a showing room with accomodations for a stage performance. A tiny viewing room reminiscent of a large living room.
During the day there is a small cafe on the lobby. We had a free night and went to see a New Zealand produced movie..what a treat,
Ice cream bars were tasty!

I stopped at Hokitika for a driver reviver and found this fab little cafe inside the theatre foyer. Great coffee, lots of excellent-looking goodies but I was planning lunch at Greymouth. I look forward to coming back here for brunch on a future visit.

My partner and I went there for a pie - and they are really good ! The pastry is clearly homemade and the filling were tasty and saucy - perfect pie fillings. We had the creamy chicken and the steak, cheese and bacon. I wish I could have tried the lamb one but it was sold out...
As for the movie, we watched Captain Marvel in the Stanley room - coziest cinema room I have ever seem. No IMAX - but very cute. Worth the experience.

This theatre has been lovingly restored by 1000's hiurs of volunteer labour to bring it back to the bygone days of Cinema. The building is also used for convention weddings school productions and movies. This icon is truly a beautiful old building well loved and nurtured. A must see and if possible take a tour of the behind the scenes for all its history

You listing was as a theatre. You should really try to get the cafe listed separately. Honestly I tried hard to find you looking for food, and even to give you a great review. I don’t know how you go about getting this changed but if Trip Advisor had you on the top of the list, we would have walked straight in 2 hours earlier as we parked right out the front of your shop but we wandered the shops to see the cafe names that had come up on the list.

Thanks for the feedback. I have added several search phrases to the TripAdvisor listing - but perhaps they're not working that well. Will have a play with our profile and try and boost the cafe component of the business Thanks again.
