Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

I went to the Sock World & Sock Knitting machine Museum here in Hokitika.
I was amazed at the exceptionally high quality of the socks for sale.I bought
a beautiful pair of possum and merino socks for about 25 dollars that are so
comfortable I never want to take them off ! The lady who served me was really lovely,
and made me feel welcome. I totally recommend this establishment to anybody looking
for top quality socks and or knitwear in Hokitika. Andrew

Although I did not buy any socks here, it was wonderful to pop inside the store and see the beautiful socks that the owner makes. The machines in the back of the room are intricate. Who would’ve thought it was so difficult to make a sock? Great place to stop for a visit if you are in the area.

I always make sure I visit this shop on my travels on the west coast (usually every year) the owner of the shop is an absolute pleasure to chat to and always remembers me. I make sure I always buy a few pairs of socks for myself and my family they are of high quality and last longer than any others I have ever bought. I look forward to coming back soon

I popped in and had a chat about spinning wheels and crafting with a super friendly lady. I didn't buy anything that day but enjoyed looking at the socks and yarn they had for sale.

I brought my companion to see the sock machines on a different day and the woman working then could not have been more grumpy. She was completely unwilling to answer any questions about the sock machines.

Heard from a local about sock world and being a fan of high quality/interesting socks I was not impressed. The selection of men's socks was poor. I would pass on this stop.

heaps of socks to purchase but none knitted at the museum, no machines running just gathering dust would be good to get a machine for working demonstrations

We called in here whilst in Hokitika. We expected a separate museum but it's just a part of the shop that has some knitting machines in it. There's a video playing that's interesting, and socks for sale, although not that much stock.
We only spent a few minutes here, but worth popping your head in if you're going past.

There is a sign outside which says "world's greatest sock store". I think not. There are "greater" stores in many malls worldwide, and online.

This place is a curiosity for sure. It is small. Much of it is dedicated to retail sock, glove, and other wool sales.

It is hard to tell what you are looking at unless you are already a sock making hobbyist.

For the average tourist this attraction can be skipped.

Was really curious about this place but it's really only a shop. Was also spoilt but a member of staff shouting into a phone in an unpleasant manor. Very disappointing

Great find in Hokitika. Commercial and hand dyed yarn and plenty of socks to buy. Prices for NZ socks are quite reasonable.
