Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

I always make sure I visit this shop on my travels on the west coast (usually every year) the owner of the shop is an absolute pleasure to chat to and always remembers me. I make sure I always buy a few pairs of socks for myself and my family they are of high quality and last longer than any others I have ever bought. I look forward to coming back soon

I went to the Sock World & Sock Knitting machine Museum here in Hokitika.
I was amazed at the exceptionally high quality of the socks for sale.I bought
a beautiful pair of possum and merino socks for about 25 dollars that are so
comfortable I never want to take them off ! The lady who served me was really lovely,
and made me feel welcome. I totally recommend this establishment to anybody looking
for top quality socks and or knitwear in Hokitika. Andrew

I popped in and had a chat about spinning wheels and crafting with a super friendly lady. I didn't buy anything that day but enjoyed looking at the socks and yarn they had for sale.

I brought my companion to see the sock machines on a different day and the woman working then could not have been more grumpy. She was completely unwilling to answer any questions about the sock machines.

I have bought several pairs of the colourful house socks for my son-in-law over the years to wear with his work boots. The latest pair I got shrank the first time they were worn and became all matted and unwearable. When I complained to the owner, she/he said they should not be washed in hot water. I explained they were never washed at all, just worn once. Then he/she said there was nothing they could do about it. These socks were $39.99 and totally unfit for purpose. DO NOT BUY FROM HERE. YOU WILL BE CHEATED.

Although I did not buy any socks here, it was wonderful to pop inside the store and see the beautiful socks that the owner makes. The machines in the back of the room are intricate. Who would’ve thought it was so difficult to make a sock? Great place to stop for a visit if you are in the area.

heaps of socks to purchase but none knitted at the museum, no machines running just gathering dust would be good to get a machine for working demonstrations

We went here on a rainy day with some grumpy toddlers, didn’t know what to expect.. the sock machines were fascinating. I’ve now taken to researching sock machine mechanisation.
The range of socks was also prettty impressive, but it is a sock store so I guess that’s what you get.

Proving that there's a museum for (almost) everything somewhere, the sock museum is a look into that most mundane of clothing articles - socks.
There's a also superb selection of yarns and wool for sale, and my wife was regretting it wasn't really practical to stock up and ship a container load back to the UK!
The old machinery on display told the story of sock making back to it's earliest days, and socks of all descriptions are for sale.
A true one off, and my merino socks should prove their worth come winter!
Recommended.

IF you're looking for yarn, they have lots to choose from. Plus all the knitting machines.
When I asked about the various yarns, the lady wasn't that helpful nor did they have the best colors, but that's personal preference.

Never put any thought into how socks were made. Fascinating! Worth a look while walking around town.
