Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.

We walked into his shop in hokitika and he had a chat with us, very friendly. This guy paints rocks with detailed NZ artworks and turns them into fridge magnets, general artworks or little holders. We picked up a few souvenirs for home

Very reasonably priced

Those who want to see local artists at work should visit Willem Steyn's finely decorated shop/workshop in Hokitika. Beautifully painted stones and magnets adorn the interior. Willem is a creative jack-of-all-trades. I'm sure he can pull many more works of art out of his hat.

@Willem, I enjoyed our little chat, in Dutch. Good luck and maybe we'll see each other again someday.

William is so kind and warm person. Very friendly for customer. And patient to explain any painting meaning in stone.

Beautiful little shop in Hokitika. William is a talented painter and has many items to choose from. I bought a handful of stone refrigerator magnets for souvenirs. They are small, easy to transport and a wonderful memory of the trip. The kiwi bird will forever be on my refrigerator :-)

Dropped in by chance while passing by on holiday from USA. Also looking for possible business to export to the States. Unfortunately was greeted by a rather rude gentleman - as a result he just lost a valuable customer & business opportunity with his unwelcome attitude and did not serve Hokitika or New Zealand well.

William is so talented and friendly!!! I bought a little fridge magnet which I thought was such a lovely way to remember New Zealand and the Kiwis. His stones are so cute and are a perfect little token for gifts and souvenirs! A must see if you are heading through Hokitika!!!
