Absolutely fabulous craft shop to satisfy a large range of interests and very friendly staff. The most outstand part was I emailed them asking if they could courier an item I had spied and taken a photo of without my wife detecting me, it is for Mother’s Day. The correspondence was lightening quick, answered all my questions and provided me with bank details. I purchase the item around 1pm and it was on my door step at 950am the next day, we are in CHCH, NZ. It might be just over the alps, but I was expecting 2-3 days. The packaging was also top class. The item individually wrapped, then placed in a good-sized box with plenty of paper strips cushioning the item, brilliant. I’m extremely happy and will defiantly return, must see for all, great experience. Thanks, a mill, Trevor, Yes, I’m a male in a craft shop! and what an enjoyable experience it was….

Me and my boyfriend stopped here for having an idea about which Pounamu choose. Karen took a great care of us and shared a detailed description of the different types of stones and we found exactly what we were looking for! Loved the products in the store, highly recommended if you are in Hokitika.

Stopped in for a look and were most impressed with everything in store. The lady in there was chatty and had a fund of local stories. Really worth a visit - there's something for everybody

On walking past I was immediately drawn to this gallery as a craftsperson myself. I am a Kiwi and rarely visit the plethora of tourist craft shops that abound in our country. The Hokitika Craft Gallery offers beautifully crafted objects by local artists. They have a range of items that I've not seen anywhere before. Bought some beautiful little gift cards for future use. Locally made beard balm for my husband, hand balm for myself (both with without plastic containers). And only just resisted the beautiful garden sculptures on display.
The lovely lady working during my visit was both welcoming and very knowledgeable about the 70+ artists and crafts people represented in the shop.

Would definitely visit again and highly recommend if you're looking for a unique and we'll made local item.

What a gem! Such a well merchandised gallery of quality local and New Zealand art and craft, the shop is not cluttered, is stocked with a fabulous selection Aotearoa New Zealand inspired ware, we were welcomed into the store with a beautiful smile, this really was our top retail experience in Hokitika. Well done Hokitika Gift Gallery. Highly recommended.

A craft shop full of beautiful objects, staffed by helpful and friendly crafts people, not pushy though keen to make a sale obviously. Jim Gordon was particularly patient and encouraging in getting us to make up our minds about two jade pendants to celebrate many happy years together - better work here than in the more glossy and expensive main street outlets. Sorry we couldn't fit one of his wonderful wooden bowls into our luggage. Have you tried putting up the price a bit and offering free postage, Jim ? His recommendation of the Wildernss Lodge at Moeraki was spot on.

thank you for your lovely comments! We've taken care to select a wide range of arts, crafts and specialized gift items and Jimmy's bowls are a special addition we are proud to display. Glad he multi-tasked as a tourist guide too! Your pendants will serve as a special reminder of your bond and time on the beautiful West Coast! Best regards, Juergen.

We had such a lovely experience in the store that in the same morning we returned 3 times!! The artwork on display was beautiful (and able to be shipped internationally) which was great to hear.

The main reason we ended up buying two jade necklaces here was the quality of the pieces compared to some of the other shops in town. As the pieces we purchased were created by local artists, it felt more like they had purposely picked different pieces of jade and depending on the pattern or the colour had then let that dictate the style of the carving. We are thrilled with our pieces, they are going to be a lovely reminder of our trip. They lady who served us was delightful, helpful and generally great to speak to - even giving us the information about the Maori culture that we should gift these items to each other as it is part of the tradition. Along with the quality of the items in the store, her help and attentiveness really made it a lovely experience.

We're so pleased you enjoyed the gallery and that you were able to select some very special pieces in memory of your trip to NZ. The Pounamu carvers we represent certainly know how to work the stone and bring out the very best with their design and finish. We know you will treasure them for many years to come, thanks again for your generous and appreciative comments of your experience, best wishes, Monika

New ownership obviously made a big impact on the aesthetics of this space setting off the local artisans work perfectly. I fell in love with the hand made teddy bears- all uniquely named. They were stunning! If you prefer locally made souvenirs then this is the place to go.
