Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

An absolute must if you are looking for Merino Wool Products. The shop has a wide selection of products, all priced at 15% below retail price. A great bargain for products of the highest comfort and quality, supplemented by the excellent customer service by Penny, who rates as one of the friendliest and helpful shopkeepers I have ever had the pleasure of meeting.
I dropped by the shop as I was in Hokitika for a short time, and was impressed at first sight. After leaving, I realised that I had left my coat at the shop, but was unable to go retrieve as I was set enroute to Lake Mahinapua. Penny, who picked up the coat, kindly offered to drop it off at my accomodation after work, going above and beyond anything expected of her.
There is a shop at Kaikoura as well, whose shopkeeper Marion is every bit as helpful as Penny. If you ever stop by any of these two areas, drop by and say high. You'll not regret it and, who knows, you might walk out with an excellent deal along the way!

Our InterCity bus driver stopped in Hokitika on our trip from Fox Glacier to Greymouth. We only had about one-half hour to spend in this town. There are a number of interesting and unique shops and we could have spent more time checking them out. But I'm glad we stopped into this store, because of their unique collection of authentic and reasonably priced possum/marino garments.
The saleswoman was friendly and helpful. We'd learned that possums are destructive to New Zealand's native bird life so hunting is permitted and encouraged. Possum fur, when woven with marino wool, makes a deliciously soft and warm fabric. I bought a poncho here, and probably would have purchased additional items if we'd had more time.
If we'd had more days in our schedule to visit New Zealand, I would have also been interested in staying in Hokitika overnight for the shopping as well as the location, which is on the Tasman Sea. Sadly, I'd had no idea that this place existed before the bus driver stopped here.
