Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

We booked our extended West Coast Wilderness Trail trip before Covid. But the Australians had to cancel so just 6 of us aged 7 - 75! Cycle Journeys adjusted our plan. All their suggestions were, even with hindsight, extremely sensible such as staying mostly at Scenic Waterways, and being shuttled to Ross and also Cowboy Paradise from Hokitika. The six bikes we hired performed perfectly - and the Hokitika staff were all very helpful, even when we were latish getting back!

Cycle Journeys did a fantastic job of organising our trip. Very efficient during planning and also when we arrived. We would highly recommend them.
The scenery was amazing and the tracks very well sign posted.

We really enjoy our stops at the Treetop Walkway and also would recommend a trip to the Hokitika Gorge. Our last stop at Monteith Brewery in Greymouth

Our accommodation was great, and food was excellent.
The night at Cowboys Paradise was a bit "different" but rooms were clean and we were well feed.

We were all 60-65yr and reasonably fit, two of us rode e-bikes which I would recommend (unless you're really fit)there some big hills and it made our trip much more enjoyable.

Highly recommend doing this trip.

Absolutely fantastic bike trail. Beautiful scenery and well maintained track. Our accommodation and food at the Theatre Royal Hotel was superb. I had a little trouble with my electric bike but as soon as I was within cell phone range I rang Cycle Journeys and it was solved immediately. Would definitely recommend the bike trail and Cycle Journeys.

Cycle Journeys was the ideal way for our group to ride the West Coast Wilderness Trail. All that was required of us was to turn up and have a great time!

Communication was excellent, the briefing covered everything that was needed and the bikes were great quality.

From Dave for the sorting and answering all my questions to Mike who sorted drop off and pick ups of our gear we couldn't have asked for better.

Would recommend them for using a package booking

Thank you team for doing all you could to make our time on the West Coast WT a fantastic experience: especially the great e-bikes (our first try of these), Mike for making sure we got where we needed to be, and reuniting us with our bags at night, and for your organising skills. It’s a great journey through some amazing scenery. Special mention for Gavin and Cindy at Scenic Waterways, and Celia and Helen at Kumara. Lovely people.

Great customer service with staff who did everything they could to make our 4 day Wilderness Trail cycle trip from Ross to Greymouth as relaxing as possible. The accommodation at the beginning and end was exceptional but I would recommend asking to be taken back to Hokitika for the 2nd night unless you want abuse and inappropriate comments from your host.
The support crew are amazing.

My biking skill has been limited to riding flat, wide roads of Kolkata, India for not more than 4-5kms a day. I signed up for a solo and self-guided wilderness mountain bike trail without much research and not with the best biking gear. And definitely with no training.

I fell thrice on Day 1. Many bruises. At least five shades darker in the sun. Thereafter my bike became my friend, doing exactly what I wanted it to do. From riding without hands, to puffing and climbing up a hill or coming down in top gear in exhilarating speed to riding in torrential rain! I was lucky to get some great biking advice from Dave at the Hokitika depot.

I have been generously rewarded with a lot of adrenaline rush, biking tips as mentioned above, beautiful scenery, motivation from fellow bikers I met on the way and a huge boost of self confidence.

These few days were one of the best in recent times. Now I know there will be many more.

Three of us rented bikes to ride on the new Paparoa track. Geoff and the crew at Cycle Journey were incredibly informative and went above and beyond in terms of helping us sort out logistics. I'd give them a six star rating if I could. Top marks!

We all thoroughly enjoyed our ride from Ross to Greymouth on the ‘West Coast Wilderness Trail’ - excellent stays at Scenic Waterways & Theatre Royal, however Cowboy Paradise was standard ( even though you pay a superior price) ! The power there is by generator, which is switched off in the evening, leaving you with no heating through the ( very cold when we were there) long night. Also the owner is not very hospitable!
On the trail we talked to quite a few other cyclists & many don’t stay there, they just stop for a cuppa!
Also be very aware of Cycle Journeys’ Cancellation Policy. We tried to cancel our last night’s stay in Greymouth by giving 7 days advance notice, ( Coleraine Motel, if booked directly, has a 72 hr cancellation policy) however there’s no refund for ANY part of your trip within 14 days prior to your trip. My mistake as I didn’t thoroughly read their policy.
However, bearing that in mind, I recommend them !
An exciting experience, which certainly tested me on my non-ebike cycling in pouring West Coast rain !
Would like to do it again ... with some changes;)

Hi Tina, Thanks for your feedback. We pride ourselves on providing well organised and enjoyable trips. It is a shame you didn't enjoy your experience at Cowboy Paradise. Many of our clients comment that their stay here was the absolute highlight of their trip. Our cancellation policy is standard for companies that book trip itineraries as we do, and we generally apply a level of compassion when applying it. Others in your cycling party have also been in touch with us directly to express their thanks for organising a fantastic trip so I am pleased to know that overall you have had a great experience.
