Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Some months later, we still remember with pleasure the thoughtful and informative conversation we had with Jurgen about the exceptional creations in his gallery, how he selects them and his own approach to photography. There were a number of pieces we would happily have purchased were we not travelling for several more weeks; in the end we did purchase one of Jurgen's Giclee prints of a juvenile kea - it fills me with joy every day as I walk past it in our entry hall. Do visit Wilderness Gallery!

Excellent selection of locally made New Zealand art, including stunning photography of NZ wildlife and landscapes that you’ll want to take home with you! The penguin photography was a huge highlight. Very friendly service and great to see so many artisans featured in this beautiful shop. Definitely worth a visit- we were so glad we stopped in!

WOW! The art was amazing and mostly stuff you do not find anywhere else in NZ, which is rare. Even the husband liked it (he hates shops). I could have spent thousands of dollars as so much is so well-made, beautiful and local. A definite place to stop in to see in Hokitika.

We were traveling with a small group through the north and south of New Zealand and our travel companion, Jutta, took us to these two wonderful galleries that she has known for a long time. An absolute must if you are nearby!!!! Very tasteful and we would have liked to buy more, but unfortunately you can't take everything home with you on the plane. It's a shame, but luckily it's possible with the handmade jewelry!
Highly recommended!!!

The Wilderness Gallery is spectacular. You'll find crafts and photos that are stunning, in a physical space that's beautiful, welcoming, calming, and elegant. Stop in and fall in love with a beautiful photograph or piece of art.
Juergen is a delight, and he's a master photographer. Nothing's photo-shopped, his work is the real deal.

Very nice art shop with unique craft souvenirs made by local artists. I stopped there the two times I went to Hokitika as I loved their bird brooches hand painted and with paua shell finition. I took one for each of my family member and for myself. Perfect place to find a special object to bring home or just enjoy the art and speaking with the friendly owners.

The gallery was spacy and the displays were well done; they are interesting for those who are not that interested into photography. But even for those, it really is worthwhile to study the different topics. Some photo’s are really stunning. We as tourist, unfortunately, do not have the time to sit down and wait for the perfect light...

We're so glad you enjoyed the photography and appreciate your kind comments! Capturing the perfect light makes all the difference, hopefully at some point of your trip you were able to take it slow, wait a while and get your own perfect shot. Best wishes, Juergen

We had a lovely experience at the Wilderness Gallery.
The owner was very friendly and took time to talk to us, which is always appreciated.
The product is sublime...to which my Visa card will attest! But very happy with my purchases, beautifully made and local product, making for some beautiful gifts and memories.

Great to see Juergen the friendly owner. You visited our old shop Zen at the Arts centre in Christchurch and what goes around does indeed comes around. Thanks for showing my family, friends and I around both your galleries. Awesome arts and fantastic service. Highly recommended when you are in Hokitika. Cheers
