Had never met the owners, Delia and Gary but that didn't matter. Simply great people, understanding, professional yet friendly. Bloody good sense of humour too. The advice they gave me and the e bike they hired to me, just great too. The hire charge was most reasonable; less than I had anticipated. Nothing at all was a problem to these people. I just can't recommend then enough. In about 6 months I will be back to Hokitika to complete the whole of the Trail and will do so using not only an e bike from this company, but employing them to make accommodation bookings, advise on activities to pursue along the way, etc. They made my experience yesterday of riding a 3 hour section of the West Coast Wilderness Trail comfortable, calm and not TOO energetic!

We had a great experience with Hokitika Cycles & Sportsworld. First off, the customer service is excellent and everyone who works there is super friendly! Our family of five (kids age 14, 11 and 11) rented bikes and took their shuttle to Ross. We then biked the West Coast Wilderness Trail from Ross to Hokitika. It was a beautiful trail with a wide range of landscapes to enjoy. Nothing too hard for the kids, but it was a long morning and they were really ready for lunch by the time we biked into Hokitika. I highly recommend this activity (as long as the weather is good!).

If you want to hire or buy bikes, this is the place to go. The service was fantastic, nothing too much trouble, and Delia made sure we hired the right bikes for what we wanted to do. Very knowledgeable with great tips for the trail, and the bikes were excellent. Highly recommend

Our family of 4 (parents, kids 13 & 16) rented 4 bicycles from Hokitika Cycles on Christmas Eve Day to cycle the “Great Day Out” (approx 50 km ) portion of the Wild West Coast trail and can highly recommend them: They assisted with planning the route, providing up to the minute information via email about road conditions after flooding and making suggestions for alternatives. The mountain bicycles are very good quality and in excellent condition, and the gel seat covers (no extra cost) helped us avoid sore tushies. Lots of gear and goodies in the well-stocked shop, for bikes and beyond. The cost of rental included a 1-way van drop off with the bikes to our start point. Service was friendly, relaxed, and responsive. We were so grateful that they rented bicycles to us on December 24, especially as 2/4 of us rolled in 15 minutes after closing time. On that topic: the trail is rated “Easy”, but what we found here (and throughout NZ) is that “Easy” really means “Easy...if you are in decent shape with some trail experience.” It was fantastic, and highly recommended, but we underestimated how long it would take (give yourself 8 hours total). Have a well-deserves ice cream at the shop next door when you are finished! (The hokey pokey is delicious)
