Magnificent church
Jul 2020 • Couples
It is a beautiful church. Built in the 1920s. It is very sad because you cannot go inside since 2012 because of structural concerns.

A landmark in hokitika closed as would be dangerous in earthquake. Not because of chch quake. Built around 1920 not a Francis Petrie building but nicely done

Wouldn't hold breath for when it opens as will cost around 5 million to earthquake strengthen it. Accommodated over 300 persons in it's prime.

Waitin Restoration

Visited on Friday 11th May. We were disappointed to find the Church fenced off and waiting restoration, hopefully it will be open next time we visit.

Full disclosure: the church is closed temporarily because of its structural instability caused by the nearby Christchurch earthquake of 2012. It will open again in 2020, which is something to really look forward to. This church can be viewed from the outside, which is what I did. The building is a registered historic landmark and its 19th century style and wooden make up are charming. One of the nicest and most historically interesting buildings in the town. 2020 isn't so long to wait to see the restored interior, a treat to look forward to.
