We went for a tour and Rachel is one of the best guide. She is very informative and we learned a lot from her.. She is our guide going to the gorge and punakaiki pancake rocks. She drove us safe knowing that the weather at that time was crappy. She is nice and lovely too.. If we will go in a tour with our family, we will definitely get in touch with her again.

A big thanks to Rachel for looking after our group of 11 Tauranga-ites last week. Not only door to door service from Hokitika airport to our hotel but also the same from Hokitika to Greymouth to catch the TranzAlpine. In between times Rachel took us to the Tree-Top walk, Lake Kaniere and the fabulous Hokitika Gorge. Thanks Rachel :-) Wonderful service and lovely friendly attitude.

My husband and I used Hokitika Scenic Tours while visiting Hokitika and Franz Josef over 3 days. I’d booked the package offered which included a one-night stay, two tours, pick-up & drop-off, a cooked meal, continental breakfast and a platter with bubbles; we were not disappointed at all. Rachel communicated promptly throughout answering the few queries I’d put to her. On payment, the acknowledgment and receipts came through immediately. We were met at Hokitika airport by Rachel who whisked us away immediately to Hokitika Gorge. Her car was a corporate vehicle, immaculately kept with leather seats and she provided us with a bottle of water each. She drove pointing out places of interest in Hokitika and stopped at the memorial in Kowhitirangi commemorating the mass killing in the area in 1941. Hokitika Gorge was simply beautiful with its blue water and thick , untouched rainforest and the two bridges. Snow capped mountains peeped out everywhere around both in and outside town. We stopped at a lake formed by retreating glaciers , the snow capped mountains again in the distance. We then visited the Treetops Walkway amidst a canopy of tall trees 20 metres above the ground. Bits of information about the flora and fauna of the region are posted everywhere. We had our cooked meal there ( could choose anything on the menu along with a cup of coffee) . It was a beautiful clear day and everywhere the vistas were stunning. Rachel provides a stream of interesting information. After a stop at the Hokitika driftwood sign on the beach, we were then dropped off at a beachside unit ( Shining Star Motel which I think, was a change from the Beach Haven mentioned in the package). Nevertheless it was a nice place, very close to the beach where we had a long walk picking our way among the interesting pieces of driftwood washed ashore. We watched a spectacular sunset later on. The star of the evening was the wonderful platter we were given ( provided by the Treetops Walkway cafe we were told) which was a lovely, very generous one with cheeses, cold meats, fruit, pickles, bread, crackers and dips more suited to 3 or 4 people! A bottle of French bubbly accompanied this. We had stuff left over for breakfast! Rachel had also provided the means to put a continental breakfast together . The next morning Rachel picked us up and drove us ( what a beautiful drive) to Franz Josef as we had booked this as well with her. It was very relaxing to watch the lovely scenery go by while Rachel pointed out things of interest. We had already booked a helicopter flight ( with a company suggested by Rachel- Heliservices) and Rachel took us straight to the office and waited while we did it and then had a bite to eat. On the way back, Rachel stopped at Lake Mapourika for a photo-op and at our request, at Ross while we took a couple of pictures. She then dropped us off at our hotel. Rachel wore her mask very diligently throughout and at the gorge offered us a natural sandfly repellant. She was professional, courteous and very helpful throughout. On the whole I have no hesitation in recommending the services of Hokitika Scenic Tours to anyone and would also consider using them again shoujd we visit the West Coast again.

Special Hokitika Scenic Tour and Stay at the Beach House, with Rachel as our tour guide: We enjoyed a really lovely day out with Rachel, who met us at our motel at 11am and took us to our accommodation for the night ahead, so we could leave our car there and spend the day seeing some of Hokitika's great sites. We went to Hokitika Gorge, where the river is turquoise blue and the swing bridge was great fun, then Kowhitirangi, where Stanley Graham massacred 7 people in 1941 and saw a very moving and fitting tribute to those killed. Followed by the Treetop walkway where we could see for miles and learn also about the different native trees and plants. Lunch was provided at the lovely cafe there and that too was exceptional. Rachel allows you time alone with your partner to enjoy the tour/food etc but gives you amazing insight into the history and interesting facts about the area during the drives and at each site. After lunch we went to a very beautiful still and quiet lake which finished off our day perfectly, just standing on the jetty drinking the views in was lovely. Rachel took us to our Beach Haven, a lovely house on a secluded beach to stay the night - leaving us a bottle of bubbly and the most huge and delicious cheeseboard and meat platter you've ever seen. What an amazing day and evening we had, watching the sunset and enjoying the beach. Plus Ray's eels - the owner of the house we stayed at showed us the local stream where we fed about 10 fat eels, who squirmed right out of the water to eat the chicken pieces we saved from our platter.....great video and a brilliant memory to savour. Rachel is the perfect guide - has extensive knowledge of the area and nature around there and is a lovely person, generous and kind and very easy to be with. Thanks for a brilliant tour and stay over in Hokitika Rachel. x

We went on a wonderful tour to lake Kaniere, the native rainforest, the waterfall and Hokitika Gorge. Rachel picked us up from our motel on time. She drove us in a clean and comfortable SUV. The tour was very scenic and very well paced. We enjoyed walking the rainforest and the Gorge. Rachel was a lovely and friendly guide. She was very knowledgeable and informative. We learned about history of the area and the plants and trees of the forest. We enjoyed our time and felt relaxed and comfortable. Rachel went above and beyond. She took good pictures for us and was happy to answer all our questions. She had a sandfly natural oil repellent which we applied before walking through the forest. She also had delicious homemade cheese scones as a snack for us. Thank you Rachel for providing outstanding service and for taking us on this very beautiful tour. Very Highly recommended!
