Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

super awesome, the walk was beautiful and the tunnels were exciting. Great for families, would be fantastic for young children but remember to bring a torch (although a phone light will do). Quite a lot of stairs is something to keep in mind but lots of places to stop and informative signs.

We were just driven around the area by AATKINGS in a group to get an insight into an old gold mining history.

A little off the beaten track this walk is an easy to manage walk around some old gold miners diggings. The track is only just over a kilometre and although there are some stairs it’s relatively easy going.

Great walk through an old mining site set deep in native bush. Walk past old water races and dig sites and even walk deep into (safe) old tunnels.

Such a lovely walk with some steep sections as you walk down the valley then up, but overall a relaxed walk. A feast for the eyes with moss, lush vegetation, tunnels and historical mine relics. We also got to interact with a curious, friendly robin who followed us for most of our walk. One of the highlights of our NZ trip!

Well worth the walk! Unsealed roads to get there and the trail is tricky in some parts. Quite a few stairs which can be slippery. If you’re unsteady on your feet or have knee or hip problems I would advise walking poles and have someone with you. It’s doable but you have to know your limits. It has tunnels to walk in and suspension bridges. It’s an old gold mining area. It’s only a short walk. About 1km loop. So you don’t go back on yourself.

Great out of the way place that should be advertised more, one not to miss, walking through some of the mineshafts is fascinating, bring a torch, suspension bridge to cross as well. This should be one of the best things to do around Greymouth. The last section of road up to the car park is unmade and not maintained though.
