    Epic. Inspiring. Emotional. Cultural. Immersive.
An immense centre, full of vibrant story telling of years gone past, focused on Māori heritage and culture. Epic technology. Beautiful consideration to sharing culture and knowledge.
Thank you so much for the lovely feedback. 🙏

Beautiful, immersive experience of te Ao Māori
Incredibly beautiful and compelling experience of te Ao Māori. Poutini Ngai Tahu and Weta Workshop have created a world class installation. Would recommend to everyone, wherever you are from, Aotearoa or overseas. Authentic, moving and every aspect of this (film, art work, sounds, voices) is magnificently rendered.
Kia ora, thank you for sharing such an amazing review! We are thrilled to hear you enjoyed the experience we created at the Māwhera Pā.

    Not to be missed
Fabulous place to visit on a rainy day. Spent 1 hr 40mins here. Read and watched everything in this time. Great local history coming alive with weta workshop magic. Probably not for young children just my opinion. Will definitely go to the other pathways when they are open in 2025. Staff are friendly and helpful
Thank you so much for the wonderful feedback!

An amazing new way to tell stories
An amazing new way to tell stories. The technical skill and cultural care that has gone into this (exhibition/experience/museum - I am not sure what to call it) is extraordinary. The story of the first people of this region and the treasured pounamu stone is beautifully told in innovative and interesting ways. It is self guided and we took about 40 minutes to go through.
Thank you so much for the wonderful feedback, Joshua, we are glad to hear you enjoyed the experience.

An experience not to be missed.
An amazing experience. This is a MUST do if you are even on the West Coast. To hear and learn the stories of Poutini Ngāi Tahu is a privilege. I recommend taking your time to read all information i would say you need 1 to 1.5 hours there.
Thank you for the great review, Chantal!

    Well done!
The museum is excellently done, the visuals, audios, sound effects, videos, stories are a top notched. I love the contrast of coming out from the battle of Pounamu to the tranquil village, just make you appreciate more of the presence. Staff are amazing and friendly as well!

Excellent start but needs to be developed
We had been looking forward to visiting the new Pounamu Pathways Centre and were not disappointed. The exhibits were superb especially the Maori Village and the recounting of iwi conflicts on the West Coast were informative. However, three areas could be improved. First the gift shop sorely needs some literature, not only about pounamu but also about iwi conflicts over pounamu in the South Island. Second, the layout was a little confusing as it was not immediately clear about the best way to move around the Centre when you arrive. Perhaps a simple pamphlet which also outlined the role of the centre would be helpful. Third, entry fees were expensive. We had booked beforehand only to find that it would have been much cheaper had we come later when the fees were lower. This needs to be clarified on the website. Overall an excellent experience but one that could be even better!

We were very disappointed as it is so over priced for what is there. We watched the short visuals and read the displays in 40 minutes. The little that is there is well done but we expected a lot more for the price charged. Very poor value for money. Hopefully the admission price can be reduced to encourage more people to visit.

This newly opened experience is well set out.

It was nice to be welcomed by a member of the local Māori community and given a brief explanation of the experience. There is no doubt that the experience was costly to construct, and the visuals are superb.

But for an adult price of $45 we expected more, much more. The web site recommends 60 – 90 minutes for a visit. We looked at everything in detail and it took about half the suggested time.

Greymouth needs attractions like this, and we wish it well. Just add some more exhibits to support the story or reduce the price.

It is an innovative and fun experience. My 10 yo showed great interest in the exhibitions and my 7yo and 5 yo were a little scared as it was quite dark inside. I wish they had a brochure in multiple languages so my non-English-speaking parents could enjoy it more.

Wow! This visual, historical, cultural experience is fantastic. It gives you an in-depth experience of Māori cultural and emotional life. It is a tangible feeling of village life, the deep connection to ancestors, the passion of warfare, all done with the magic and design of the iwi and supported by the skill of Peter Jackson’s Weta Workshop.. if you love and appreciate the energy and and authenticity of Maori cultural events, this is the next step. Don’t miss it! Combine it with a trip on the magic Transalpine railroad or a tour of west coast!
