Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

My husband and I decided to try horse riding while we were on holiday, it was the first time either of us had ridden a horse since childhood, so we presented ourselves as beginners. We were the only ones riding at the time so just had one guide with us. A little bit nervous to start but thoroughly enjoyed it once we got started. Lovely walk through sand dunes and along the beach, then back to the paddocks. Very enjoyable.

Such a fantastic experience and the scenes were just beautiful! I’m so glad we choose 2 hours because 1 hour would just not of been enough. Staff were fantastic, made you feel very confident and explained everything thoroughly. Horses were well behaved and it was so lovely seeing how well looked after the horses were!!

Spent an incredibly wet and stormy afternoon with Skylar and Camilla as our guides!
What an incredible two people to share time with and their knowledge was fantastic.
6 of us showed up ready for an adventure and boy did we have one. The horses each with their very distinct personalities were just an absolute entertainment!
Thank you Skylar and Camille you made this experience!!

Totally inconsiderate of other horse riders and people. Parked the horse truck so other people couldn’t float their horses. Very rude and demanded we move as its their spot even though theres no signage stating that and its a public road.

I wouldn’t recommend these people if this is how they treat fellow horse riders i can just imagine how poorly they treat the horses

Great communication, prompt response time, Skylar who took us was amazing, even with our 8 year old daughter. Would not hesitate to recommend this amazing place, experience. Only regret was not making contact earlier, we had 12 ppl but they had to return to Australia so it was only my wife, daughter and me in the end.

Really great experience with Waipu Horse Adventures today.
Vanessa and Helouse were fantastic and very accommodating.
Todays trek is very sedate and suited for people who have not ridden or have limited experience but I understand they can tailor the ride to match the experience of the rider.
As a family of 4, none of whom have any real horse experience, we had a great time.

Absolutely loved this hour-long horse trek with Heloise, our guide, and Missy, my mare! There were 2 other participants in our group. The trek took us through DOC conservation land and then along Uretiti beach. A friendly and engaging guide, a very beautiful and calm mare, and a stunning landscape, made for an unforgettable experience! Perfect for beginners.

We rode through the dunes and a stretch of beach then back again. The horses plodded along through the traffic. Not a lot of scope to move past a walk. Very scenic and our expert guide made for a lovely horseback experience.

We almost missed the place because there is a teeny tiny little sign on the side of a fast moving road. There was no parking and the gate in front of the house was locked. I called and was told to unlock the gate and just go to the back, because the house (which is the only building you can see from the road) is not affiliated to the horse farm. This information would have been nice to know when we made the booking. It just made for quite a disorganized/not welcoming entrance.

I did not have any riding experience. I was given minimal training tips before we got started. I was given the "lazy" horse Wonky, which was fine by me, but because of this I was always left behind in the group. Sometimes one of the instructors was back there with me, but still in front of me. I was told to just kick the horse and he should speed up, but he never did. I also didn't feel comfortable continuing to kick a horse, it made me sad. Often, the two trainers rode up in front talking to each other about personal items, and not really engaging with us. Neither one of them was rude, but guides on excursions should be interacting with the guests at all times, and definitely should not have left me so far behind when it was known I didn't have riding experience. I felt quite left out. I was asked a few times "are you ok?" And while yes, I was ok, I was really disappointed at the lack of engagement and attempts to help me to get the horse to speed up with the rest of the group.

The ride itself was absolutely beautiful. We rode through fields, dunes, and along the beach.

We made our booking over the phone and I told them we were visiting from out of the country from the US. They did not inform us that they only take cash or local bank transfer. They said after the trip was over we could go to the local store and we could get cash back on our credit cards (we figured it was a NZ thing). I had to stay sitting at the horse farm while my husband went to 3 local stores/banks, none of which would give cash back. We ended up paying them in the little bit of US currency we had left and had to pay almost $20 US extra for the fee that it was going to cost them to exchange the currency. Knowing this, we would not have booked with them because we did not have access to withdraw cash. It wasted almost an hour extra of our time trying to deal with this, when again, this information should have been told to us when making the booking.

All in all, the ride itself was awesome. But this is not your big time horse riding excursion company that we thought it was, and honestly would not have booked with them otherwise. It just seems like someone who owns some horses, gives riding lessons and takes people on rides on the side.
