    Fantastic day out.
I hiked up the River Track from my campsite, and then remembered it was Waitangi day, so it was fairly busy. A lovely day, clear skies and hot. Great views all round. No actual shop or anything on site, but there is a superette not far down the road. Just sat and watched the falls for quite a while.

    Walk Around
Located in the midst of the town, this falls area is quite fantastic. There is a walk around the falls area offering a variety of views. The walk is relatively easy and took about 20 minutes to go around. Plenty of parking and toilet facilities. The falls are within easy access and well signed.

    Spectacular falls
A beautiful water fall on the outskirts of the city. There is plenty of parking and a well marked walk down to the base of the falls and up the other side, forming a loop. I was surprised at how beautiful the falls were. There are bathrooms at the parking lot and information about the falls.

    Well worth the effort
A stunning fall so close to the road and easy to access from its dedicated parking area. The top most viewing platforms give a taste of what to come from A short circular walk and the view from the bottom is well with the effort. The pay is well marked and kept well so don’t hesitate to make the decent.

Visit the Falls from the car park from the top initially. A viewing deck offers a good view from the river under a low lying bridge and then looking down to the falls. Take a walk across the bridge and then follow the trail down to one side of the waterfalls. The spray from the water creates a mystical atmosphere . If wanting to sit or picnic there are spots to sit on rocks or the ground. You can cross to the opposite side of the river of the waterfall and also walk alongside the river. If crossing on the other side there is also a trail taking you back to the car park. If walking the trail along the river make sure you wear the correct walking footwear. The track is very pebbly , uneven in places and can also be a bit muddy in particular places. Enjoy.

Waterfalls at the north end of Whangarei, easy stop if headed to Tutukaka or points north. There are two walks that take you down to the base of the falls; both are easy, child friendly, and shaded. Don't expect railings to protect visitors from stupidity at the top of the falls - NZ embraces personal responsibility and asks you to stay off the top except on the walkways. Medium-small parking lot.

I wish I had a walking track like this near me. The falls are very picturesque and the 3km walk to AH Reed Memorial Park is worth it. It was very surprising that this beautiful area is so close to the city.

Picturesque but underwhelming. The park and walks are nice and well maintained but at the time of year we went (February) the falls had very little flow so looked quite small. Perhaps in winter with more rainfall they may look more spectacular.

Beautiful waterfall with many access points. There are many viewing platforms at the top of the waterfall and the short walk to the bottom of the waterfall is also easy for both young and old. For those who are keen in exploring the area, there are longer trails available. The waterfall itself is pretty, with ducks swimming on the pond underneath, picturesque and worth a visit.

If you are travelling near Whangarei and see a brown or green sign saying Whangarei Falls....stop. especiaaly of it is a nice day. This is a delightful park and the falls really fall. Big drop. The council have developed a really nice park around the area coupled with an easy but totally delightful walk thru NZ native bush with bird calls to boot. Most trees are Totara and stand tall and straight reaching from the floor to the sky in a very dramatic fashion. If you just want a break , even if not, this is a great stop to stretch your legs with great viewing platforms looming at a majestic drop surrounded by great native bush. Good toilets at the carpark too. Seriously you will not regret a 30 minute leg stretcher at this very tidy , worth stopping at local viewpont only 1 minute from the carpark. Do it. You will thank me.

We visited on a beautiful autumn day with plenty of nice clean water running down the waterfall. The loop track around the falls takes about 20 minutes and is reasonably easy going. We had a pram and while we had to lift up a few stairs we got around no worries. Some beautiful spots for photos and viewing platforms also. Highly recommend if you’re in Whangarei.

Super easy access to the top of the falls - they are right there! Nice walk to the bottom, with seating provided. Top area is lovely spot for a picnic, toilets well maintained (just check the lock has worked!!). Don't miss this if you are in the area.
I was there later on the day of some flooding after a big rain event so water wasn't clear but falls were super-impressive. Visited again next morning and they were a lot clearer, so note they do change very quickly if not great one day, try the next!

The falls and trails lived up to all the glowing reviews and recommendations we had received. There are great views and also various trails of different levels of difficulty - nothing harder than moderate. Not too crowded.
A nice perk was the presence of volunteers in the parking lot helping with car control and providing great info on the Falls and also offering good lunch suggestions (Black Stump). I wish these kind folks were actually municipal employees - they deserve it!

This was well advertised but, at the time we visited, a bit overrated. I am sure when there has been lots of rain in the winter it must be quite spectacular, but in the summer not too exciting. A pleasant enough walk through down to the bottom and up again to the car park.
