Town Basin continues to be a pleasant place to meet for meal or a little selective shopping. The new bridge down river has led to a new circular path that can after an energetic walk, lead back to the cafes1

Friday night food market are cool here, it's a great hanging out zone seeing all walks of life. There are a variety of restaurants and an icecreamery/fudge shop. The river is beautiful looking out over the yachts.

With three young boys (10 and under), the Town Basin is great. Fabulous playground, loads of great restaurants and shops, and walking the Hatea Loop is great with the boys. They scooter and we walk fast...stopping at the skate park on the way round.

The jewel in the crown for Whangarei would be an apt description for the Town Basin. It is an attractive Riverside area adjacent to the CBD which features great landscaping and a number of cafes/restaurants and shops/galleries. Always a must-visit when in Whangarei
