Overview
More
Whangarei Quarry Gardens is a subtropical oasis created by volunteers in the remnants of a former quarry in Northland, New Zealand. The Gardens are open to the public and feature subtropical gardens, native forest walks, waterfalls, streams, quarry ruins, tunnels, a scented Camellia collection, a plethora of NZ native and exotic plant species and so much more... The Gardens are a work in progress and have been created through the blood, sweat, tears and laughter of volunteers, supporting companies and other interest groups. Entry is by GOLD-COIN DONATION, with all proceeds used to purchase plants and equipment. Thanks!

The food is ok but quite expensive for what you are getting. Eggs Benedict very small portion and long wait. Nice setting though. Coffee is also good, but service too slow.

Morning tea @ The Quali Cafe in Quarry Gardens and a look around the beautiful gardens is truly a pleasure and a 'not-to-be-missed for the gardener, in this northern city

This is a beautiful garden setting with all sorts of planting and the quarry lake is amazing. Lots of old buildings to wander through and pathways for the kids to explore on. The Cafe is beautiful as well.,

Visiting Whangerei from Australia we visited most tourist sites. The Quarry Gardens are not far out of town and cost is a donation. The camellias and bromilliads were the feature at this time of the year. The lake & stream added interest.

This is so beautiful, lovely to now be able to sit and have food here, cafe can be busy, nice coffee. You have to walk around the whole place, so many different plants, even for different seasons, so worth it, they cater for disabled quite well.

The gardens are open daily, including public holidays from 9am. So yes should be open on Labour Day. There is no set fee but they do ask for a gold coin ($1 or $2) per person. You are of course welcome to give a larger... More
