We didn't really get this place. We walked around but got the feeling we were intruding, so didn't stay long

We walked from our hotel and found such a fun and funky place just brimming with creativity. We met several of the resident artists and even got a little tour of the wood burning kilns from Kathryn. Quite a history associated with the place started by Yvonne Rust in 1981. Worth a visit!

What a great setting for an artists commune - nestled below the bush-covered walls of an old quarry. The place is very laid back and though not all the places will necessarily be open when you visit, you are sure to find things of interest and someone friendly to chat with.

We wandered around but a lot of the places were closed and some of the outside exhibits were looking tired and overgrown. The shop was lovely and had good variety, and the staff helpful but not over engaging. Clean toilets. Peaceful. Nice waterfall at the far end of property, and beyond that are the quarry walls. Exhibit area near the entranceway opposite a basic cafe area.

The gallery shop has great local art for fair prices. The kids and I enjoyed making art at the Sea life exhibit which was added to a fishing net to contribute to the exhibit, and the staff said we could even collect the art next week. Unique place, family friendly and open.

Wear good walking shoes as there's some interesting tracks to walk. Easy to get around, can take a push chair to most sites. Has a cafe with good food and coffee.

Staff are friendly, exhibitions are awesome - it's so nice to see so many creative artists in Whangarei area. We took a stroll around the grounds on a quiet day and enjoyed poking around the little artists' hovels and the gift shop. The surrounds are beautiful with green bush and a flowing river with a mini waterfall at the back of the grounds.

Please note Quarry Arts doesn't open until 9.30am.
This is a unique environment for artist of differing genre to make and create whatever their choosen medium is.
You can grab a coffee here and take your time and wonder around at your leisure. Not all the artist were there when we visited. The ones that were we're happy to interact with us.
There's a shop on site selling local artists work, from jewellery, pottery, handmade clothes and a lot more all very reasonable priced.
A great place to visit.

We arrived here at twenty five past nine, it was due to open at nine thirty, no one arrived so we had a wander around, disappointed not to be able to see anything but the grounds are nice to walk around, just driving away from the place at nine forty six and someone arrived to open up but we were a bit fed up by then so just left, maybe next time we will arrive later, they should change their opening times if they can't open at nine thirty.
