Great selection of local arts and crafts
Mar 2017 • Couples
It is so nice to visit local arts and crafts instead of the mass produced souvenir shops. We found some great things to take home from here.

Great range of kiwi arts and crafts
Jan 2016 • Family
Fun shopping with a large range reasonably priced kiwi styled gifts, clothing, jewellery and collectables.

Great for decent gifts
Dec 2015 • Couples
Like many I have a horror of the usual souvenir places with their often cheap and nasty offerings and with overseas friends needing gifts with a difference and quality, this is just the sort of place to find them. The name says it all really.

Saturdays and creative courses
May 2011
I have been back to Creative Kiwi Arts and Crafts many times as I am a local. The really wonderful days are Saturdays when you can check out various artists working and they will always stop and talk to you about their work.
For a really exciting experience do one of their courses, Screen Printing, Nuno Felting, well, just go on their email list for their enewsletter. The Tutors are really lovely, kind inspiring people. The classes are kept to a managable number for the individual courses.
This is a happening place and Julie and Mark always make you welcome and unless Julie is doing her creating out the back they both have time to chat about the various works they have there.
I have said it before, its not a five minute stop, its pretty hard to tear yourself away, I just love going there.

Make it easy - make it good!
You want to take something home for friends that looks as good when you got it there as when you bought it in NZ? Think locally made, excellent quality, easily packable hand crafts, chosen and stocked by two enthusiastic 'new' NZers who just love what NZ can offer, and what so many Whangarei/Northland artists produce. These are gifts the recipients won't just put in the back of a cupboard after they've said 'thank you' politely! And it's all sensibly priced, too. Try them and see - you'll be glad you did.

A delightful encounter in a varied and interesting gallery
one of the 101 things to see in Whangarei. Go here and be inspired by local artists inluding the owners work, something for everyone, afforadable art in various sizes even a backpacker can take with them.
Julie and Mark are such fun people, I had such a wonderful time here, but if you only have 5 minutes to spare go back when you have at least an hour, there is so much to see and talk about.

Great arts and crafts shop in Whangarei
Wow what a cool shop that was, definitely more alive than the others we visited, very passionate owners in there! Maybe that's only on a Saturday but they had lots of different artists working and doing demonstrations, very entertaining and we talked to loads of interesting people. We bought most of our gifts for home before heading down to Auckland, lots of great stuff for kids, some unique pieces of handcrafts (all New Zealand made - some shops seem to have nothing but Chinese things, plastic Maori art etc. - avoid!), of course couldn't go home without yarns for the wife (big selection for those interested - also lots of glass jewellery the owner makes herself), and lots of small and inexpensive things, lots of art on the walls. It's not directly in the Whangarei Town Basin but you can see the blue shop from the carpark, it's very close and there's also easy parking in front.
