We came to Whangarei just to have this experience and we were not disappointed. Mervyn and Rangimarie welcomed us into their home to share their food and their deep connections to their Maori Culture. From Mervyn’s traditional welcome to their family farewell this was an unforgettable day. I don’t want to give away too many “spoilers”. I recommend this tour so you can experience this gem for yourself. Definitely a 10 out of 10 for Tu Tika Tours.…

Whether you have one day or weeks in Whangarei, this is the single best day tour available. It is like nothing else we have done in New Zealand, and we’ve been here for months. It is not a performance, it is a personal invitation into the Harding family’s home where you experience an intimate view of the culture, history and cuisine of the Northland Maori people. They are the loveliest people, and we discussed politics, history, culture and exchanged funny stories. When they say you leave as family they are not exaggerating. We did the whole day tour and it was worth every minute and every penny. Our son loved listening to the stories just as much as we did, but he also played happily with their children. We will never forget it and can’t recommend it enough.…

Mervyn and Rangimarie were incredibly nice and gave us deep insight into the Maori culture and their local history and nature. They really care about their environment and their history and their tour is nothing like all these big tourist dances/dinners. They are just a normal modern Maori family with deep knowledge and insights and they welcome you into their world. Mervyn even did a haka for us which was amazing! We would highly recommend Tu Tika Tours to everyone who is interested in the Maori culture and doesn't want to be caught in a tourist trap. The tour is well worth the money, you won't regret it! We booked this tour on very short notice but it wasn't a problem at all. Thank you for this great experience and all the good wishes you send along our way - we really enjoyed New Zealand, also because we learned so much from you about the Maori culture!…

My family of five absolutely loved this tour. It was fun for my husband and I and our three kids (aged 5,4, and 1). Merv and Rangimarie are very knowledgable about the history and culture of the Maori people as they clearly embrace their heritage. At the same time, they made it really fun to learn about the Maori language and traditions for the kids including cultural songs, dances and chants. The tour was a really fun way to spend part of the day. If I were to do it again, I would probably choose the full day experience as well. I’m glad we did this tour early in our trip in New Zealand because now I feel that I have more insight into the culture which will benefit as for the rest of the trip. Highly recommend!!!!…

We were treated to the Tu Tika Tours Cultural Tour with Mervyn and Rangiamarie. Having visited NZ quite a few times over the years we can simply say this is probably one of, if not the best cultural tour we have been on. Our hosts were simply brilliant and not only did we laugh and enjoy ourselves a little bit silly, we also learnt heaps and a new song to take home. I could not recommend this tour enough. We saw beautiful country side and heard in an extremely relevant and respectful way so much of the local and rich history of the Maori people. Will certainly be looking to book another tour with them on our next visit.…
