Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

The theaters, and seating are really good. The counter staff are good, although short staffed at busy times. The last 3 viewings have been spoiled by itinerant people coming in to the theater mid-way through the screening. These people are teenagers, and have obviously not paid, and yet are able to just "rock in" to get a free viewing. The last occasion, they were disruptive, talking & arguing, and up & down, and in & out of the theater. Event Cinemas - Whangarei need to seriously review their security.

I understand that cinemas these days are struggling to make ends meet and can't refresh their décor every few years. I do think it's important though that they maintain a basic level of cleanliness. Sadly this complex doesn't achieve this. On our most recent visit this weekend the first thing we noticed as we walked into the cinema was the smell of old sweat. The carpets and seats seem to be impregnated with it. The curtains and light fixtures were thick with dust. My seat had a broken spring and a piece of popcorn wedged into it. If you can't afford to replace the seating at least get it steam cleaned. The people of Whangarei deserve better when they shell out $16 for a seat.

Movie on a wet day worked for us and the theatre was clean and comfortable. Helpful and patient counter staff when tech challenged on recovering AA tickets from email. An enjoyable experience, thanks.

They refused to sell me adult tickets without I.d. Maybe because I'm black! They continued to sell tickets to teenagers without asking for I.d despite the movie being R16!
Whangarei event cinema staff and duty manager explained that even if you pre book online, they want to see the owners of the tickets, in other words they will not sell you tickets if you buy in advance; and if you'd like to pick them up for your friends, forget it! The service is appalling, disgraceful and demeaning!

I will not be going back there ever again and would not recommend it to anyone.

Well, the heading says it all. Avoid Row H, Cinema 4 however, when we shifted a ruptured spring in the seat almost perforated my fundamental oriffice (wrecked em , but didn't kill em).
Close the Cinema 1 by 1 and conduct a deep clean. Worth informing the Health Dept? I ponder the possibility.

This place doesn't work, drives this grandma to popcorn and Netflix at home. Not so friendly staff, always grubby. The cinemas are always only 10 percent full. Maybe they should reduce the prices and bring in more custom, but seriously. ....to take 4 kids and 1 adult plus a snack sets you back nearly $100. A day of Netflix viewing and snacks for less than half that. No competition the place is a blight on Whangarei. Not to mention the Creepy unsafe access

We had grabone tickets for our visit but the tickets said they had been used when they hadn't. The cinema staff quickly fixed the problem and we were still able to go to see the movie we had wanted to see. Staff were fantastic and didn't question anything, just sorted it straight away. The staff are always happy and quick at their job.

Old cinemas and kind of grubby. Before you buy your tickets it pays to check which theatre your movie will be screening in. Cinema 4 and 5 are newer and more comfortable. 1-3 are old and gross. The carpeted floor in cinema one when I went was sticky and I did not want to think too hard about what I was stepping on. You won't find Gold Class or anything like it. The coffee options are limited to a crappy instant machine rather than barista and in the evening when everything nearby shuts up shop earlier than you'd find in a bigger city this is annoying. Coming out after a late screening to find that the front entrance is shut is also inconvenient and unsafe.

The cinema will screen your blockbusters. If your tastes are more eclectic or if you just want comfortable seats, I don't know. There's only one movie theatre here so they have a monopoly.
