Sam the owner was skippering the boat. The weather not brilliant but none the less a very good trip. 55 minutes up to Upokongaro for a lunch stop over. Sam giving a running commentary on the history of the river and the boat. The stop over in Upokongaro lasts 90 minutes. This gives you plenty of time to eat and... More

Great talk around the history of the boat and the area. Fascinating. Time to look around, take a picnic wear flat shoes. The volunteer Phillip was a friendly great guy. We really enjoyed our time on the Wairua and Whanganui river. What a beautiful experience.

There is a tour guide in period dress on board who gives the passengers a talk on the history of the boat and the exploration of the Whanganui River. However I didn't hear any of it. To be honest I was just transfixed with looking at the engine room. You are even encouraged to get down and dirty with the... More

We struck it lucky with the weather, fine sunny and only a slight breeze. There were only a few of us on the trip as it was a week day, but it meant we had a personalised commentary. We learnt about the history of the river and the how the boat had been rescued from the mud to be restored... More

As a part of a family reunion we decided to sail up the whanganui river, and what a great day it was. Apart from enjoying the beautiful scenery along the river banks with all our family, we also had a history lesson about the river from our very informative crew. The boat took us upstream to a park where we... More

This riverboat has been lovingly restored from a wreck sunken in the river mud. It now sails up to Upokongaro and return. The ship is moored near... More
