Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

After flying in from overseas we took a walk around Whanganui on a Saturday morning and came across the River Traders Market. The Market consists of local arts and craft traders, local food producers and coffee stops. There are some excellent places to grab a bite but we recommend The Big Moose which does ultimate barbeque home made sausages and several of the bakery stalls. Try the ginger slice and you will not leave disappointed.

This Market is one of the highlights of the River City's weekly calendar. There are plenty of stalls, each one vibrant and attractive in its own right. I liked the crystal birds some artisans were selling. The kai carts are also top notch in a friendly, unpretentious way.

With the sounds of music from an old organ truck and the paddle steamer drifting along the river there is no better way to spend a Saturday morning visiting the river market.
You are spoiled for choice in this lively market.
Original handcrafts by the artisans selling everything from arts, crafts, clothing, food and much more.
A great atmosphere so grab a snack from a food truck and meander through the market stalls.
Some have eftpos and others just take cash.

This market is beautifully located on the grassy bank of the Whanganui River. There was a wide range of stalls with arts and crafts and bargain goods. I had the best steak and egg sandwhich I have ever had at a market stall. Very good value and perfect for lunch while sitting on a seat looking out over the river. Great music too from buskers. Very lively and bustling.

A friendly Saturday morning market by the river. Go hungry as there are lots of great food stalls. Make sure you buy honey from the guy at The Forgotten World Cabin - it's amazing! He was near the main road in one of the side branches of the market. I really wish I'd bought 2 jars.

If you're in Wanganui on a Saturday morning, ensure you have a stroll through the market.
A variety of food and crafts on offer with almost too many to choose.
Hey Sugar makes exceptional Hot Chocolates - rich and velvety with homemade marshmallows, sauce + sprinkles.
If you fancy a crepe be prepared for a wait but it is well worth it!

I'm (now) a Whanganui local and love our market. What fresh food I don't grow myself I buy here from the growers, whom I now count among the friends I catch up with each week. For visitors: it's on the bank of the Whanganui River, starting near the I-Site (tourist info centre) each Saturday morning. Officially it opens at 9am but shopping starts before that, especially with the local growers who sell out early. It closes sharp at 1pm. It's a diverse, mixed market and happily the one thing you won't find is the cheap, imported plastic crap available everywhere else.
Most, but not all, the food is in the "Grower's Green" area at the southern end. Most of it is grown locally or in nearby regions and some of it is organic or spray free (but not necessarily labelled as such -- ask). It is of course incredibly seasonal (and the market overall is much bigger in summer than winter).
There are beautiful local crafts and clothing available for sale (usually the wood turners are doing a demo, the kids love that); processed foods like jams, dips, pickles, olive oils; and vegie seedlings and plants.
My best tips: check out the locally made sourdough bread made by Miranda (look for the Green Party signage). Hunt out Eileen (in the northern end) for organic fruit and vege from her beautiful property at Fordell. Havoc Coffee are local roasters and there's always a queue for their takeaway coffee. And absolutely go eat Kurt's pizza: look for his woodfired pizza oven on the back of a trailer, built in the shape of a dragon! Local watercress, great salami ... yum. Beside Kurt some weeks, you may find the handsome young men behind Bloom Theory, with some of that week's craft beer.

Very convenient place to go on Saturday. It is just beside a river and within the city and Isite. Some nice stalls and nice pizza.
