Nothing like taking a leisurely stroll around the lake during the week, taking in the sights, greeting passing couples & stopping at the near by cafe for a coffee or a ice cream cone while you watch families feed the birds. Lovely views & surprises around every corner.

Virignia Lake is a very pleasant island of greenery in Whanganui which is well worth a visit to stroll around and to commune with nature away from the hustle and bustle of 21st century life. The Winter Garden is a particular highlight with beautiful displays of begonias.

Walking around the lake is pleasant. One is surrounded by many species of birds that chirp, quack or screech as you pass. There are many benches where one may pause to rest and enjoy the views. Nearby are an aviary, a winter garden and a café. Many whimsical sculptures adorn the area. A marvelous place to spend an hour or... More

I am a bit biased - I was borne in Wanganui and this area was my backyard. Competed in a swimming race on the lake and, not looking where I was going, I cut my head on that big fountain. But its a lovely calming spot - doesn't take long to walk right around it.
