Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

This is such a beautiful place not far from Whanganui. It’s a lovely relaxing walk round the lake, watching a variety of birds and their chicks. Don’t miss the Winter Gardens, which are so beautifully done. Apparently the lady behind it has been doing it for a long time, it is just a blaze of colour at the moment. There is also an aviary with lots of non native birds in it. We finished off our visit with a delicious coffee at Funky Duck cafe.

We spent a lovely afternoon here with everyone in our group catered for. We started off by visiting the winter gardens followed by a stroll along the lake. Then we visited the aviary which had a great selection of birds and finished off at the park for the younger kids to have a play.

One of the prettiest lovely city gardens and the bird life Mazing. Worth return visit.
The coots were friendly and the geese. Baby birds are special especially diving and pulling up weed for the young.

We loved the tranquillity and beauty of this spot. The lake was much larger than we expected and we ambled along, stopping frequently to view the water birds and soak up the relaxing views. It must be heaven to bring your lunch here, just sit on a bench and unwind. Definitely want to revisit this magic place.

The ducks and the cafe. The ducks enjoyed their duck food and were very funny quacking and following myself and my mother around for more food. Plants in winter garden were very pretty and colourful and bird Avery was also very good.

We were able to come here and transmute the sad occasion of Mum's passing into a happier feeling of serenity and eternal peace. Rotokawau, the lake which Mum loved so much, was the perfect place for the family memorial gathering. We each said a few words about her and ushered her gracefully into the Great Beyond.

It’s peaceful and has lots of interesting things to see around it. The rotunda, the fountain, the Māori sculpture, bridges, woodland walk, swans, pukeko, duck, winter gardens. Our children love going around there and my husband and I love walking around. It’s beautiful.

Such a beautiful spot. The grounds are so well maintained. Unfortunately the coffee from the funky duck cafe was undrinkable but everything else about our visit to this lake was just lovely. 30 min walk around with lots of gorgeous little nooks and crannys. The indoor winter garden was very cute too. All very well kept. Thank you. Was a pleasure to visit.

A really lovely attraction for Wanganui. I had never previously visited this park and it was quite a revelation. So many parks in NZ are spoiled by councils 'over structuring'and formalising them and spoiling their natural beauty. Not so here. It was a real pleasure to stroll through the park and just enjoy nature. Of course being Spring, we were able to see the hundreds of young waterfowl and to watch their antics we were able to spend a thoroughly enjoyable few hours in the park..

We stopped here for an hour or so to give ourselves a break on the drive from Wellington to New Plymouth. Very pleasant and well maintained. The indoor winter garden was very colourful. We did the loop walk around the lake.
There is not that much parking. Not a problem when we were there on a winter weekday, but it must get very congested in summer.
A great place to stop in Whanganui.
