i have always loved this lake and have now had a long personal association with it stretching back four decades or more. Our recent visit to the City again provided us with a chance to visit it, and it was the true highlight of the trip. The feeding of the waterfowl, the circumnavigation of the trails surrounding the park and... More

At the west side of Whanganui town, this lake and the surrounding park welcoming visitors to the city coming from west direction (through Hawera). Small lake but beautiful with park at the surrounding area, gives choices for visitors as picnic spot, walking path, or exercises track, or just sitting and enjoy the scenery. A lot of ducks (for the duck... More

This is a great place to visit with all ages. We arrived there in the evening just before sunset and that couldn't be more amazing!

We were absolutely delighted to stumble across Virginia Lake on our last trip to whanganui. What a beautiful space for everyone to enjoy. Our toddler loved the aviary, seeing the ducks and crossing the little bridges. What an excellent way to spend an afternoon in whanganui.

We really enjoyed our visit to this lake. Very relaxing. Obviously used by lots of locals, but great for visitors too. A tranquil walk around the lake, checking out the water birds, was most enjoyable for us.

The Virginia Lake is a pretty long walk from town so best to drive there. However it is a really pleasant place to visit. We visited the Funky Duck café for breakfast which was very good before going into the Winter Gardens - a greenhouse full of beautiful potted plants. The Lake has a lovely walk laid out around it... Nothing like taking a leisurely stroll around the lake during the week, taking in the sights, greeting passing couples & stopping at the near by cafe for a coffee or a ice cream cone while you watch families feed the birds. Lovely views & surprises around every corner.

Virignia Lake is a very pleasant island of greenery in Whanganui which is well worth a visit to stroll around and to commune with nature away from the hustle and bustle of 21st century life. The Winter Garden is a particular highlight with beautiful displays of begonias.
