Plenty of parking. A walk on soft black sand amongst zillions of driftwood is necessary to reach the sea. It was very windy the day I went...and quite cool. Raincoat or warm jacket needed from now on!

It is really a spectacular black sand beach with a ridiculous dirt road to get there. Walk by a waterfall on the path to the beach. Just too cold to swim!

The first ever black sand beach I have been to! The view was fascinating and there was nobody else around so I could peacefully explore by myself. Locals say that during the summer season the sand gets unbearably hot due to its dark colour.

So wild and spectacular. Loved exploring this little corner of NZ. Great playground and campground also.
