Beautiful tower - worth the climb
Mar 2021
Great views from the top, but due to the chin high walls, not so easy to take pics. Tough climb to the top for some not so fit, but worth the effort if you can

Drove up to view point
Feb 2021
We chose not to use the elevator to the top, but drove up. The views were pretty good from the top of the Elevator, didnt have the stamina to do the memorial tower steps

Good views and free
Jan 2021
This memorial tower is not far from the top of the Durie Hill Elevator, which also has a viewing tower on top of it. Good views from both - basically the same views, but the top of the War Memorial Tower is higher. There is no charge to climb the tower. It is extremely windy on the top!
Worth going up at least one of the towers for the views.

Something Else to Climb....
Jan 2021
Its a tower. A carbon encrusted, industrial looking Tower behind another viewing tower on the top of Durie Hill.

We climbed the smaller viewing platform tower in front of it that looks out over the city, sea and river. The kids had more puff and trucked the additional 170 steps to the top of this tower to see the same view. It is free...we had silence from the kids for 10 minutes.

It is the highest point of the city and has a great view over an already great view. You will know what I mean when you get to the top of Durie Hill.

Quite a climb
Oct 2020
This is a great attraction for the reasonably fit. I am in my seventies and quite fit but i admit to feeling relieved by the time i got to the top and the 170 steps were behind me!. Great views from the top which made the climb well worth while.

Evening view and nice workout
Sep 2020 • Friends
I come here quite often with my friends after work to burn those calories out and enjoy the scenic beauty of wanganui. We take the durie hill elevator steps and then climb both the towers. It is a must do in Wanganui, especially in the evenings as you can then sit at the top, enjoy the view of the sunset and have some banter with your friends after all that effort.

Memorial tower
Oct 2020 • Family
This is a quite tall memorial tower located on top of a hill. This is located just next to Durie Hill elevator. The tower itself is well built and beautiful. You can also climb up the tower to have the best top view of the city. Thanks

Climb to enjoy the View
Apr 2020
This monument/tower was built after WWi. Has excellent views over Wanganui is well worth the effort.
You can drive up to the tower or take a lift which brings you up near the foot of the tower.
