We had originally booked to cycle the trail over the Easter weekend but delayed our start due to the cyclone coming through. Luckily the trail had little damage but there are still a few slips from a previous storm but nothing that couldn't be ridden past. My kids are 5 & 6 and they both managed the trail riding from... Great trip! Would recommend Sherpa shuttles plus Miranda hot springs holiday park. 11 people completed this from age 6years to 40 something. Everyone managed. Stopped for cheese platter and Devonshire teas. Kids were amazing and we had no problems. Would recommend to other families!

One of the NZ great rides--primarily along an old rail bed so easy technically. Rode Paeroa to Wahi and back. Scenic and leisurely or you can put the pedal to the metal for a workout. The old rail tunnel at 1.1 km was fun as was seeing the Victoria Battery--the original gold mining/refining technology on a large scale that the... More

Stayed at Thames overnight after this ride. 35 kms of easy track. Got Tui Blue shuttle back. Trevor was our driver. Very friendly and professional. Great night out in Thames at the Thai on Pollen street. Stayed at imperial hotel. All good. Thoroughly recommend.

My wife and I hired some bikes from Paki Paki bike hire in Thames which were $30 each per day. The bikes had seen a bit of use but were fine for the purpose. The track runs as far as Waihi but we just rode from Thames to Paeroa and return. There are a few shops and cafes just off... More

This ride is good and it works for any fitness level. Breath the fresh country air. Stop off at the cheese barn or enjoy a coffee along the way. This ride is great for families.

We rode the Hauraki Rail Trail in 2 days. On day 1 we rode from Thames to Waihi. The ride was mainly through farms on a dedicated track with many cattle grids to ride over. It was picturesque and pleasant and flat. We stopped for lunch at Paeroa then continued to the beautiful and scenic Karangahake Gorge travelling through a... More

Last week my cycling group decided to have a look and a ride on this new link which is not yet officially open. The track itself is a bit rough due to its unfinished state but has some good features. I really liked the new cattle stops which are wider than the ones on the rest of the trail. Also... More

My wife bought a book on the NZ Bike trails a few years ago and I've wanted to do one ever since. This year our usual holiday spot was unavailable to we decided that this was the year to do one. I chose Hauraki partly for the location (closest to Auckland) but also because it seemed the easiest. I ride... More
