Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.

We visited Jeanne-Marie and her husband after Christmas 2016 and spent a lovely morning together with a good cup of tea. Her paintings are extraordinary, her cookbook is still inspiring and she and her husband are a very lovely couple. I enjoyed meeting them very much.

After we visited New Zealand for a month, I contacted Jeanne-Marie about a soft cover book "French Cooking in New Zealand" that I had seen, used, in a cafe reading space. Jeanne-Marie wrote the book and it is illustrated with her watercolor paintings. The book is no longer for sale, but she was kind enough to send me a copy. I work in pastel and watercolors myself. Jeanne-Marie's paintings are fresh, colorful and reflect the beauty of New Zealand. Her book is a wonderful keepsake of our trip. While I didn't know about Jeanne-Marie's gallery when we were in NZ, I recommend a visit based on the quality of her paintings and friendliness. We have traveled quite a bit and original art from places we love really enhance the special memories.

Wow! Oh what a superb painting I bought at this marvellous place! So many great things to choose from! The quality is outstanding, the subject matter is so varied, and the prices are so reasonable. I'll definitely visit here again. The surrounding landscape of a near-by beach meant we saw beautiful birds too. Altogether excellent!

I've booked a watercolor from a picture and the result is better than the original. Jeanne-Marie, the artist, created an atmosphere but i can recognize the land i like. Thank you Jeanne-Marie for this so beautiful watercolor. We keep in touch for the next one !

I stopped in and met Jeanne-Marie after seeing her tui painting on the cover of the Coromandel Life magazine. She shared some stories with me and told me where I could find more of her paintings at a local gallery. Her paintings are delicate and capture the spirit of the animals and birds she paints. I walked away with two! Highly recommended stop on your way to or from the Coromandel :)

Beautiful birds, landscapes, and flower watercolor pieces. Affordable small to large artwork and an adorable calf watercolor I fell in love with; purchased a small Tui piece looking forward to returning next time I visit the North Island! One of her pieces was even used on the cover of the local magazine

What an honor to visit with Jeanne Marie Canterean. Her work is absolutely breath-taking. How can one person have so much talent? Her watercolors are alive, fresh and vibrant. So clean and meticulous. White white paper with soft feminine touch. She is so gracious and welcoming. Don't miss this.

We first discovered Jeanne-Marie's paintings at the Thames Arts Centre (just a short drive out of Thames township on the Coromandel road). We bought two of her beautiful paintings then. When we next holidayed near Thames we revisited the TAC and were given info about Jeanne-Marie's new studio nearby, and were entranced by her work once again. Two more lovely paintings came home with us. Jeanne-Marie has a love of New Zealand, its flora, fauna and landscape, which shines through in her vibrant art.

We discovered the studio as it was on the cover page of the Coromandel Life magazine. We went there without any expectations and had a wonderful time.

The artist, Jeanne-marie, is a sweet, humble lady originally from France (you will recognize her accent :)). She was extremely welcoming and shared with us her passion of watercolor while she was painting. We have two kids (12 and 9) and they were observing her paint with great attention and asked many questions about brushes, paper, and various techniques Jeanne-Marie was using.

I was personally very impressed by the quality of her watercolor and ended-up buying two paintings (New Zealand bird, shoreline landscape) at very reasonable prices. The studio is small so one hour should be sufficient.

Jeanne-Marie recommended us a beautiful path along the sea that one house from her studio and we ended-up walking for more than an hour and came back.
If you go to Thames, I would definitely stop by this studio. And if you have time, don’t miss the walk.

What a wonderful studio, I had not believed water colours could be so vibrant and exciting. Definitely worth a visit, if not just to browse and meet such a friendly and charming artist and view her work. Such variety of subjects, and not off the beaten track either, really easy to find, just minutes out of Thames town. We will definitely be stopping by again. Can't wait to hang my beautiful painting of my Tui's !
