Built in the mid-1800's the public areas of this station appear to be in pretty good nick. It is, after all, an old station and will lose its charm if everything is modernised. The old pedestrian bridge across the tracks is an interesting relic of...More

I'm pretty sure I heard in the news once that there was an upgrade coming for the train station. I feel like It could so with some simple modern features. But the staff are friendly and the trains run on time, so really can't complain.

This is where we ended our Australian adventure by catching the airport shuttle bus to Melbourne...but not before we had studied the architecture and gazed in awe at the ornate features. It's worth a moment or two here...

A great place to visit either by car or train. Make sure you look to see a train coming from the bridge between platforms.

We took a walking tour with Andrew of Ballarat Heritage Tours and this was one of the stops along the way. He does a very informative tour of downtown with hints of other activities in which to participate. Highly recommend him.

Stands tall at the northern end of Lydiard Street. Dating back to the late 1800s this grand historic building can easily be incorporated inrto exploration of the area, Thanks for the vote if you found this review helpful.

When we visit Ballarat I often travel to and from Melbourne by train - a first class service. On time, modern clean train, very helpful station staff, good cafe for the morning service.

Daily commuters to Melbourne might have a love/hate relationship with Ballarat's grand old railway station, but that has more to do with parking issues and the unreliability of the train service. The building itself is a superb example of Gold Rush era architecture and remains...More
