About
Hang out with the stars while in Broken Hill. Enjoy a personalised night sky show from the comfort of a reclined chair under the vast Outback sky. You'll be enchanted and amazed by this star-gazing experience. Designed for the novice, our Sky Shows introduce you to famous stars and constellations, nebulae and other objects during a virtual cruise across the Milky Way. You'll experience naked eye and binocular-assisted viewing of the night sky with narration by a knowledgeable guide! We also offer telescope viewing in selected shows. We are outdoors under a lovely clear dark sky - there is no light pollution! While we ask that you rug up like your going to the snow, we also supply blankets and zero degree Celsius sleeping bags to slip into (boots and all) during cold months. Note that outback Australia can be sub-zero degrees from April to November! Very soon, we move to a new location with bathroom facilities and other permanent structures! Keep a watch on our website blog and our Facebook page.

Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

What a fantastic night !
Thanks so much for a wonderful experience. The knowledge you shared was amazing as was the views via the telescopes!
And the star hopping with the laser and the binoculars was brilliant. Thankyou! 5⭐

I was very disappointed with this attraction in Broken Hill. The comentary from start to finish was an absolute bore and we almost fell aslee. She kept repeating herself and the information provided wasn't valuable not accurate.

Hi Muja62 I cannot help that you fell “aslee” (sic) and that you found the “comentary” (sic) boring. I think this says more about you than me, the owner and sky guide who does not shy away from being labelled dull or repetitive. As for "not accurate" … you seem to be suggesting some information was inaccurate. This is an offensive comment as I am fully aware of the vast resources I have invested in my knowledge base. If you believe something was inaccurate you should have sought clarification on the night. That would have been the right thing to do rather than criticise and complain in anonymity in an online review. Perhaps your written review better informs readers of your own standards of accuracy.

Great night with the team at Outback Astronomy. We did the Milky Way hangout and added the recliner and drink/snack package. It was definitely worth the cost.
If you have them take headphones to plug into their audio device, we didn’t have any but bought them for $5.

If you are going in winter make sure you layer up and take a blanket as it gets cold. We were lucky as we had no clouds and no moon so our stargazing was great. The team are very knowledgeable and you can ask questions and take photos.

It’s about 10 mins outside of broken hill to get to and they have good facilities.

Fabulous …. don’t leave Broken Hill without doing this experience. Linda and Trav are superb hosts, the trouble they have gone too to set their property up for an outstanding experience.
The meal and hospitality superb. Their astrological knowledge outstanding. It was definitely the highlight of Broken Hill.

Event was cancelled due to low numbers. I understand it's a business but I hope they can understand the disappointment of missing out on a once in a lifetime experience.

We are sorry about cancelling. Unfortunately it costs us too much to host events with just one to four persons - power, time and missed opportunity to do other renovation works which have dragged on for two years due to lack of trades people. We have also found that accommodation in town is limited (including when you were here perhaps) due to film crews, construction and other workers. It is not viable to open. We closely monitor bookings and do cancel sky shows, that have no bookings, just a day or two in advance, to stop this problem. We apologise for being unable to host the event you were booked in but this is a very rare call for us - we can recall cancelling due to low numbers on only a few occasions in 8 years.

Fantastic !!! What a wonderful experience.
One special highlight for me was viewing Elon Musk's Starlink satellite train as it tracked across the night sky, something would never have found without the professional guidance of Linda who is a minefield of information.

I lost a favorite purl earing during the event and sent an email with very little hope of it ever being found. Thank You Linda, I was absolutely delighted to receive it in the post today.

we signed on for the Hang Out With The Stars program and also selected the 'Plus' option. The Plus option gives you a reclining chair, a food platter and a drink as part of the experience.
Overall the experience was excellent. We were fortunate in that it was a very clear night. The operators do have quite sophisticated processes in place to manage the experiences around the whether and give you an update on the morning of the booking to confirm that the booking will proceed etc
Well organised and reception/arrival was very smooth. Seats were very good and the food platter as part of the experience was very good and quite generous comprising, cheese and meats with crackers and bread as well as dips a selection of dried and fresh fruit and some vege sticks as well as a chocolate to finish. This was accompanied by a drink with a good range of choices.
The presentation itself was excellent with good information using laser pointers to point out key objects in the night sky, a summary of some of the science as well as history both western and indigenous about discovery of certain night sky features.
The operators had a couple of telescopes set up enabling close viewing of key features in the night sky as well.
Binoculars are provided to enable a closer look at objects that are described through the presentation.
As part of the booking the operators advise that you need to bring your own 3.5mm audio plug headphones/earphones to enable plugging into the audio system. They also advise about wearing plenty of clothes. It does get cold at night in the desert and particularly when you are sitting outdoors and also sitting in one place during the presentation.
All in all an excellent experience and highly recommended.

Wonderful experience! Professionally run with the comfort and care of guests foremost. A magically informative night which will set you on a path to understanding the landmarks of stargazing. Galaxies, the birthplaces of stars and red giants all pointed out and discussed. Telescopes and latest equipment helped us see it all! You must experience this whist in Broken Hill!

Our group of 8 visiting Broken Hill ventured out for a night under the stars hosted by Linda and Travis who put on a spectacular Star Show. After watching the sun set, we settled into our chairs, helped ourselves to the delicious platters (vegan, vege options available), hot chocolate, wine or beer as we travelled through space and time through Linda's very informative presentation. They have an amazing smart TV/telescope from France which showed incredible real-live shots of the moon, nebulae and galaxy. Linda and Travis are great communicators which ensured the whole evening went very smoothly and there was not a cloud in the sky! The experience is not to be missed and only 10 mins drive from Broken Hill off the Barrier Highway. A must-see experience and supporting a local business after a couple of very tough years.

Our family of four (kids age 13 & 11) enjoyed a great night out. We learned all about the stars, huge distances, speed of light, constellations, galaxies and more.
Definitely dress warm - and the hot chocolate was a winner. Expert and friendly commentary along with additional telescopes to view planets and far away stars. Highly recommend it!
