Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Excellent place to visit! The family loved the tour, especially as the RFDS series on TV had recently been filmed there. Friendly staff gave us the guided tour, great gift shop too. All in support of the RFDS. Definitely recommend.

I loved this place, so did my family. The staff were very welcoming and presented an activity for the kids to do as we explored the many wonderful paintings around the gallery. I was in awe of being so close to Pro Hart's paintings. They also run a short video about Pro Hart and his background. Well worth the visit!

The Broken Hill Sculpture Symposium is a short ride out of the city. Twelve sculptures were created there in 1993. They are magnificent to see at sunset, when the colours change. The most popular sculpture is titled "Bajo el sol jaguar" (Under the jaguar sun) by Antonio Nava Tirado, from Mexico. The mouth of the jaguar takes the sun at night to protect it. I was able to capture the sun shining through the hole in the sculpture. It is a beautiful place to watch the sun set.

The Albert Kersten Mining and Minerals Museum is an excellent introduction to mining and minerals in Broken Hill. You can watch a video about the geology of the area and see examples of the minerals. Learn about mining in the area. There was also a temporary exhibit of aboriginal art. It is well worth a visit.

My family enjoyed a couple of hours at the Sulphide St Railway Museum. Well worth the time and we got to speak to some of the volunteers who gave us great background to the history of the place and its exhibits. Definitely recommend if you are interested in the history of Broken Hill.

Our first interaction with the Visitors Information Centre was a public holiday – Good Friday of all days. Yes the centre was closed but at the entrance were bags with heaps of information in them. That was a good start. And the displays in the windows were brilliant! Even with this information we still had a few queries – so back Saturday morning.

The staff were very good and answered our questions professionally and authoritatively. So we had our information and were ready to go. But we had to explore the many souvenirs, clothing, local produce and more information booklets. Loved the high-heel seat, a tribute I assume to Priscilla. Through the back door is where the bus tour leave and the hallway is alive with enticements and the emu with an Aussie hat and fly shield was really the pièce de résistance.

The information gained is tucked away ready to get them out as soon a decision is made to revisit Broken Hill and then to update with the centre upon arrival.

Thank you for your assistance it is greatly appreciated.

This museum is on the outskirts of Broken, but is well worth a visit. Bushy White painted using crushed minerals until his death two years ago. A former colleague of his wanted to keep the collection accessible to the public and asked his widow for permission to keep the museum open. She agreed provided it would not cost her. Larry gave a talk on mining in Broken Hill and explained several dioramas of mines as well as mining equipment. Then he showed us Bushy White's mineral art paintings. His wife, Betty White, collected dolls. [Not that Betty White!] Her collection was in another room. I enjoyed talking to Larry. He is passionate about the museum. Kudos to him for keeping it accessible to the public.

This was the first stop on our tour of Broken Hill, we really enjoyed the views over the town and the information on the sign boards around walk. Easy access and parking, some steps involved but nothing too taxing.

Paul and I really enjoyed staying at Bindara. The bird life is stunning and the Darling River was looking great. We spent six very happy days painting beside the river. Barb and John looked after everyone beautifully with good company, warm fires and delicious campfire meals.

If you like hiking, then a visit here is worthwhile. We did a 9 km loop which took us around 3 hours. Aboriginal rock carvings & paintings are on the trail. Great views around the area from the high points of the trail.

Howard Steer is very nice and kind . His paintings are interesting and funny with deep meaning . My son spent all his hard saving pocket money from the last a few months / years on one of his original! He loved it .

Go just before sundown, explore the amazing sculptures and gaze on the amazing vegetation before viewing the spectacular sunset. If no one around it is a quite place to capture the moment.

The Synagogue of the Outback was in use from 1911-1962 and is now a museum. You can learn about the Jewish community in Broken Hill and see the rabbi's residence as well as the synagogue. In the back, there is a Titanic exhibit. I enjoyed talking to the curator.

The Trade Union once ran Broken Hill and is still very important. Their hall is an impressive building, and it is good that it has been preserved.

There are displays downstairs and a museum upstairs.

The union badges displayed on the ground floor were once critical to having a job. If you forgot your badge, you were unable to work. Your number was also critical in local activities.

It does not take long to look around - worth the effort

The Art Centre is actually several attractions in one. You can browse the art for sale for free. But the rest of the centre charges a small admission fee. There is a mine simulation, an opal cave, and a film you can watch. But the main attraction is a huge mural of the region. The Big Picture is a circular mural of various sights in the area. It's an amazing painting, with objects in front of it that add to the 3-D effect.
