We just stoer there on our way from Nelson to Greymouth. Just a great stop over with great views and beautiful scenery (seals, Birds and the waves of the Tasman sea! Just fabulous and not to be missed.

It's about 500 meters steadily going up on a gravel surface. Hope this helps

Sorry for not replying earlier - the seal colony is open 24/7. Indications are that there are resident seals there all year. Enjoy your visit.
