We were a little pressed for time, so broke the walk up by driving from Tauranga Bay to Cape Foulwind lighthouse track. The track up was good to get the blood pumping although not a difficult walk. The only disappointing thing is I could not find any track access to the lighthouse itself.
Good carpark and toilet facilities here which were quiet when we visited. Great views along the way.
The full track is I expect a longer walk of an hour or two, but the walk to the lighthouse from the carpark is probably only 30 mins return.

Gorgeous walk. We did a 3 hour loop from Omau to Tauranga Bay via the cycleway, then back the coastal walkway. Loved it. Spectacular views.

A short, uphill walk to the lighthouse, for great views over the local coastline. Need good walking shoes.

Quite a nice walk with some good views of a pretty rugged stretch of coast. Even picked a few blackberries for a nice snack. It's a decent trek to the fur seal colony, but you might see a weka much closer to the carpark.

Lovely walk with spectacular views of the coast, well maintained track , great viewing platform to watch the seals playing.
Little hint... you could drive to Taraunga Bay and have a very short walk to see the seals, if unable to walk the hour to see them from Cape foulwind.

Fantastic walkway to have on our doorstep while staying down the road in Lighthouse Road, Cape Foulwind. Accessible walkway all the way to the beautiful Tauranga Bay (passed a family with a children in a rugged buggy)…perfect walk to “blow away the cobwebs” for all the family. Excellent facilities with toilets and plenty of parking at both ends, plus recent, informative interpretation boards and signage.

Did this as part of traveling around South Island in Aug/Sep 2020 after lockdown. A nice walk, well graded, wide path, good for children. Can make it a good long walk or just part. Interesting to see seals (if smelly!). A lot of wekas running around.
