About
Shortjaw Brewing is found in the old Miners/West Coast Brewery site in Westport. It's been a small, local brewery for thirty years and we continue that tradition by brewing great beers, influenced by global brewing, but with a NZ approach. That means all of our core-range beer use only hops and malt from the South Island, and an ever-changing lineup of small-batch beer pouring in the taproom.

We were welcomed by the Master Brewer, Marc who was very informative about the range of beers.
We tried a few and they were all great... I particularly liked the hazy and the vanilla.
It was lively, with a good number of locals enjoying the friendly atmosphere and lovely beers.

Stopped in here on the way through Westport. Had heard the old West Coast Brewery was under new ownership, and we weren't sure what to expect.
Wow, what a great place! It's very small, and you don't see much of the brewery, but if you ask they'll give you a look around for free. Beers were all solid, with the Kiwi Dark and Breezy being the highlights. Friendly people, and the toasties come with house-made chilli oil.
We'll be back!

Stopped in to sample the beers at shortjaw brewery. The brewer was a great fella to have a chat with about the brewing seen on the south island. Think his name was Marc. Tried all the beers and enjoyed them . But like I have said you try them as beer is personal.
He gave me a few tips of places to try in and around Nelson.
Do yourself a favour and stop in and try the range at shortjaw.

Fantastic beer and wine. Emma and Luke are great hosts. Relaxed vibe. Would highly recommend a visit when you’re in Westport.

An unexpected highlight for a mid afternoon on a Friday. The selection of beers were great and I couldn’t decide, so I got a mouthful of each and settled on the Hazy.

Enjoyed tasting a paddle of beers and a tour of the brewery by Luke, one of the partners. The 3-cheese toastie was so good, we simply had to have another one. Well worth a visit if you are in Westport.

Awesome choice of Shortjaw beers, try the hazy! They also have guest beers, cider and wine. Lovely friendly staff, dogs welcome too.

Great spot for everyone, seems to tie the community together. The beers are good and the vibes are better. Must visit if you're in Westport.
