A short walk from the Tauranga Bay carpark will see you at a viewing platform where you can see some of the local seals. The view back to Tauranga Bay was also beautiful.

It is worth the short drive from Westport and a short walk to the viewing are where we got to see 15 or so seals basking on the rocks or playing in the rock pools. Also had fun with some Wekas on the way bck

As part of the Cape Foulwind walkway, this was another breath-taking sight. I did not see any seals (too early in the season), however, still my favourite!

On a blustery weekend day with the beach to ourselves, its hard not to rate this as one of the West Coast highlights!

Plenty of seals and seabirds getting on with their lives on the rocks below, undisturbed by the visitors above.

A well-maintained, sensitively created track, with informative interpretation boards about the wildlife in the surrounding area, excellent toilet facilities and plenty of parking.

Great observation, heaps of seals of all ages and Weka too. Great time. Babies fighting and playing was lovely, a joy to see.

we walked along the coastal track to the seal colony on a windy day but it made the walk exciting and the sea was stormy giving a great atmosphere

Fantastic walk from carpark up to Tauranga Bay seal colony, lots of information boards. Wide walkways and viewing platforms.
We were saddened by the lack of seals 2x adults and numerous pups. The pups were having a lot of fun in the pools of water and clambering around the rocks. We last visited 26 years ago and there is a marked difference in the number of seals.
Great parking and clean toilets. A must do in Westport.

Good area to park the car. Toilet in carpark. The walk to the seal colony is easy and only about 10-15 minutes. Viewing platform is large and offers amazing views of seals and majestic waves crashing onto rocks in the bay.

Did the walk which started near the lighthouse then took you to the seals and back. Great views of the rugged coastline and the seals. Found some geocaches on the way. Ice cream available at the seal end. It’s sad for local business that there are less tourists but has meant a more enjoyable trip for us crowd adverse New Zealanders.
