Experience the North of the Westcoast. Go all the way to the end of the road. The locals and businesses here are very welcoming. The best of good old NZ. Recommemded places to visit. $8 PP at Kohaihai DOC camp site on the beach. Non powered sites, flushing toilets and water. BBQ with plenty of firewood available. on the beach. Close to Great walks. A beautiful days walk to The Heaphy Hut. Oparara Arches needs a few hrs. Turnoff is close to the Kohaihai campsite up a tight and dusty 16km metal road. The Last Resort Karamea for great food and company. Will cater for all sorts. Little Wanganui Hotel the same. The Gentle Annie Campground in Seddonville is a family friendly must visit. $12 PP campsites. Lounge available 24/7 to relax and read, baking and coffee facilities available after hours with honesty-box. Make your own pizza in their oven. Sit around the fire and share with other travellers. Don't be shy about having a drink in any of the local pubs. Tables are free, locals are good at pool. Westport. Great people great hospitality. Honest old NZ values. No need to stay in Westport itself.

I had the wonderful experince of being walked through the streets of westport by the wornderful guide Phaedra. She has a great knowledge and passion for the town, it's buildings and the people who lived there. She has some great stories to share and made my experice of Westport much more enjoyable. She made us understand and feel part of the town and its history. If you have been to westport and didnt think much of it then this is a must because it will give you a hole new perspective on it. And if you have never been to Westport this is a great introduction to the town, not to be missed. You get and inside look at some of the impressive buildings and who the belonged to. The park is a beautful walk and dont forget to ask her about the butterflies. They are amazing! I was not to keen on this trip before i went on it but i would definatly do it again it was that good.
