Make a stop on the way or from the cruise. Milford highway has a lot of different scenic photo stops, but Gertrude saddle should not be missed!

Just remember to ask doc’s advice before you go. It’s not just a track but also might be a life threaten challenge track. The day I went is amazing beautiful even though the track more than half of them is full of snow. The weather...More

We crossed the creek twice, and then discovered you don’t need to. You may still get wet if you walk around the bend in the river as there may be flooding. There are several warnings of dangers on this trail. We did it on a...More

One of the best day hikes I've completed. Definitely a challenge, but lots of fun if it's your kind of thing. Do be careful, and only attempt in clear weather. Easy to slip on some sections, especially on decent. If reasonably fit and healthy, it'll...More

We enjoyed a spectacular walk up to the saddle from the car park. It's about 5 km one way and around 700 m of ascent. At the top is one of the best picnic spots in the world, with incredible views down to Milford sound....More

Strenuous walk. Steep and rocky. Stunning waterfalls, lake and views of glacial formation of valleys. Slippery and sharp rocks. Lots of fresh water to drink. Two river crossings shoes off. Views down to Milford sound. Over to mountain peaks and glaciers.

Located just before the Homer Tunnel entrance, the Gertrude saddle is a great place to stop to get some amazing mountain photos. However, it is best to appoint someone to be on "Kea Patrol" to keep these mischievous but cheeky parrots away from your car....More

One of the most stunning areas, a big steep hike to get up there, but worth it for views - watch the weather though.

This is one of the best day walks you can do in New Zealand. We camped up there for 2 days and climbed Barrier and Marian Peaks (with crampons) before coming down via the MacPherson/Talbot traverse. The hike up to Gertrude Saddle is straightforward but...More

This was so beautiful, I just wish we weren't so rushed getting through here. We only had two days to explore the whole area, talk about power trekking! Highly recommend adding this to your list!
