This is a great hike with huts in glorios locations. It is a victim of its own popularity with hordes of people packing the huts and camp sites plus day trippers. This means the track is like a road. That's sour grapes though, this is...More

We did the Routeburn Track to the Flat Hut Falls one day. Long tramp but well worth the sight to see the fall. A couple days later we hiked from the other direction to Key Summit on the Routeburn and fabulous views.

One of the best hikes I've ever done. Amazing scenery for not much effort. Lots of mountains, waterfalls, lakes. The area around Harris Saddle is particularly beautiful. The track is very well marked - you couldn't get lost. I walked from The Divide to the...More

We got very lucky with the weather so that was a bonus, but the Routeburn is definitely one of the most beautiful! Saw an avalanche, the views at the top were worth the tough climb and cooling off in McKenzie at the end of day...More

One of the easiest tracks I've done. Be prepared for bad weather because you will most likely have a wet day on your trip!

Well worth doing. Beautiful scenery, a great chance to spend time with family and friends and meet new people from all over the world. Great to get the kids outdoors, exercising and off their electronic devices and playing cards and exploring. DOC huts are well...More

This is an absolutely amazing experience. Loved the scenery and most people were really friendly. The DOC huts are well setup, only negative we had was how hard it was to sleep at night. With so many others making noise in each bedroom (around 26...More

We took 3 days to hike the route from The Divide to The Routeburn Shelter. It's quite hard to describe how extraordinary an experience it was. I hiked with my son, and the two of us kept joking that virtually every corner we turned revealed...More

Completed the track in late December 2017 over 2 nights / 3 days commencing from Routeburn Shelter to The Divide. This was my first hike and it was amazing! For the benefit of those who are considering the Routeburn Track and are new to hiking...More

It’s beautiful up there, but, IF YOU CAN’T BOOK HUTS OR CAMPSITES, there is an awesome alternative: the Rees-Dart loop. Ask at DOC; they won’t volunteer the information.

Yes, yes, and yes. The huts are more like hotels and water’s not a problem.

Glenorchy would be a good place to start, as the town, the drive there, and the part of the track from Glenorchy's side are gorgeous! I would recommend using Google Maps as the signs pointing to the road end aren't that... More
