There are 2 companies that will get you to Doubtful Sound which is at least as spectacular as the well known Milford Sound. I'd recommend Go Orange. They are much cheaper than the main company and offer the same trip with much more of a...More
I’d done Milford Sound on previous NZ travels and had loved it, so was very torn on whether to revisit the more popular Milford, or experience the different, less dramatic (or so I’d been misinformed) Doubtful Sound. I delegated decision making to Matt who had...More
After the magnificence of Milford we then visited Doubtful with Go Orange. Great crew and excellent connections. Wonderful experience to witness this monster Sound/Fjord. Weather was a bit temperamental but made for a moody and windy time
Best way to spend the last day of 2018! Scenery is simply stunning and the day flew by. We did the early morning trip and drove from Te Anau to the first boat departure point which was convenient and easy parking. We brought our own...More
I cannot emphasize this enough... go to Doubtful Sound!!! This was definitely one of the best experiences we had in NZ. And they have penguins! Don't let the name fool you, this is really a fjord. Early English settlers didn't know the difference at the...More

Overnight cruise with Real Journeys on Doubtful Sound was our NZ highlight too. We were there with our two girls in their early twenties and everyone loved it. We met some interesting people, food was good, and there was a specialist guide on board too who was very well informed on the geography and wildlife. More info in my TA review.
