- GoPlaces043006377801 contributionA gem worth visiting...We had a delightful experience at Fiordland Cinema! The friendly staff, coupled with the incredibly comfy seats and convenient side tables, made our visit memorable. The option to grab a drink from the bar and take it into the movie added a unique touch. The delicious coffee further enhanced our viewing pleasure. The two short films, 'Ata Whenua' and 'Deer Wars,' each around 30 minutes, provided captivating insights into the area's history. The beautiful scenery and impressive videography showcased in these films made the entire cinematic experience truly special. We highly recommend Fiordland Cinema for its warm atmosphere, thoughtful amenities, and the opportunity to enjoy both local films and beverages. It's a gem worth visiting in Te Anau.Visited December 2023Travelled with familyWritten 14 December 2023

While staying in Te Anau, we were advised to watch "Fiordland on Film--Ata Whenua" at the Fiordland Cinema. It was a great recommendation. The film was a breathtaking view of Fiordland National Park, shot from a helicopter. It showed exceptional views of waterfalls and glaciers, wildlife and plant vegetation. The film was thoroughly enjoyable. At the peak of the tourist season, it is shown on the hour, which is a testament to its popularity. It was money well-spent.

Comfy chairs in this small but high tech cinema.
I watched Deer wars; a fascinating slice of NZ history as hunters went from piece meal paid callers to live trappers earning staggering amounts. (Haha - see what I
did there).
Very clean, friendly staff, great bar next door with happy hour and outdoor seating.
The price for a 35 minute documentary was above the norm.

This 32-minute show can be accompanied by lovely food and wine and provides an excellent overview of the fiords that make up Fiordland (including Milford Sound). It was fantastic! Wonderful to see the fiords in all seasons – spectacular cinematography – beautiful scenery – well worth the time. Go and see it!

Enjoy close up views of Fiordland from the comfort of a seat in the local cinema. Filmed by local helicopter pilots, with a commentary, the film last around 30mins and is shown every hour on the hour in the afternoons. Don't leave it too late to buy your tickets, as there is limited seating. But you can buy a drink in the Black Dog bar attached, and take it into the cinema with you. What a great idea!

Great way to revisit Fiordland by helicopter on screen in a comfortable lounge like setting with surround sound. Sit back and enjoy this locally produced nature film for 30 minutes, offered during the day every hour on the hour or see first run movies at night. You can enjoy a drink at your seat or in the lobby. The cinema also offers free WiFi.

We did tours of both Milford and Doubtful Sound and our tour guide advised that if there is one thing to do in Te Anau is to attend this cinema and watch Ata Whenua.
You will see from a helicopter perspective the Fiordland World Heritage site in different seasons climate and terrain. Sights you wouldnt see or see close up by doing the tour.
Its a short film of 32 minutes made from many many hours of filming from a helicopter.
Its a great experience.

Went to the cinema last night to watch "Land" which was quite capturing and enjoyable. I had a port of which I was able to take into the theater. For the second half my coffee (which was excellent) was delivered to my comfortable seat. Whilst the new staff member struggled to make an impression, Jo was absolutely amazing. Keep up the good work Jo. We will return to enjoy your hospitality soon.
