Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

The cutest little boutique theater. Plays new Zealand docomovies for the tourists and a couple of new releases. Drinks, wines and coffees as well as popcorn in proper bowls, real spoons with our kapiti ice creams.... Comfy seats with mini tables and blankets supplied. Recommend.

Great experience especially after walking the Holyford track. Also doing the Preservation Inlet trip. The young guy at the counter was very good. Very passionate about what he was doing.

We did tours of both Milford and Doubtful Sound and our tour guide advised that if there is one thing to do in Te Anau is to attend this cinema and watch Ata Whenua.

You will see from a helicopter perspective the Fiordland World Heritage site in different seasons climate and terrain. Sights you wouldnt see or see close up by doing the tour.

Its a short film of 32 minutes made from many many hours of filming from a helicopter.

Its a great experience.

On Thursday evening 3 November 2022 we experienced an unexpected treat, an interlude in our holiday tour of the South Island of New Zealand. We saw Mrs Harris Goes To Paris at a delightful theatre in the little township of Te Anau: the Fiordland Cinema. Everything was just perfect. The theatre has very comfortable, wide lounge seats and a state of the art projection and sound system. Most of all we want to thank the young man and woman who worked behind the counter. It was obvious that they genuinely enjoy their job. They were welcoming and friendly. They took us to our seats, and brought in the Earl Grey tea and snacks we had just purchased. We have been to theatres all around the world and this was a first for us: a freshly made pot of leaf tea, on a tray with a china cup and a saucer. My friend was even given a silver spoon with his ice cream and cheese cake. The potato chips were served in a bowl -another thoughtful touch - to avoid the rustling noise of packets. The ticket prices are also very reasonable.

We watched Ata Whenua - Shadowland which is really a great thing to do, especially in winter months. It whets the appetite the night before a trip to Milford Sound.

The local IPA was delicious too.

We watched Nightmares Alley. It was an interesting movie.. the experience was well worth it.
Friendly, accommodating staff. Big oversize comfortable seats.. plenty of room for snack. Nice size modern cinema. Bonus was having drinks at the cinema. Had a chocolate cocktail which was heavenly.. and they bring it in to you.. what service. I like that they had an intermission.. highlight of our trip.

We saw the film Ata Whenua when we were last here 15 years ago. But it could have been yesterday. What stunning visuals, in a very comfortable cinema. Bring in your drink of choice (the local beer is definitely recommended!) and relax for 30 minutes, constantly going WOW. We loved this.
