We were staying in Te Anau for two nights in May just across the road from the Lake. We enjoyed an evening stroll along the Lakes edge taking in the stunning views across the lake to snow capped mountains in the background.

This is a lovely lake on South Island, a starting point for tours to Milford Sound. It is quiet especially in the evening.

A big lake right in front of the town of Te Anau. I walked and cycled along the lake. It was a very memorable experience.

Beautiful seems to describe most things in NZ but the lake is truly lovely. You could contemplate the water for hours taking in the serenity.
