Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Beautiful lake with lots of options to explore (the jet boat ride was fantastic but there are also bike rentals, walking trails, seaplanes, helicopter rides and paragliding). Most accommodation in Te Anau is along the lakefront with the mountains in the background- lots of photographic opportunities!

This is another of the large lakes to be found in New Zealand's south island. The town of Te Anau is on one side and a lovely range of mountains on the opposite side, We enjoyed spending some time just sitting and relaxing on its shore.

A beautiful place, as are many of the lakes and fiords in the area. Walking along the coast path near Te Anau was very restful and allowed plenty of time to appreciate the amazing geography and geology of the area. The Southern Alps are incredible.

The entire lake and town area is a lot of fun and worth spending one or two nights there. If you’re going to Milford sound. Taking a bus from Queenstown is dumb so don’t be dumb. Unless you like sitting on your butt for eight hours.

Te Anau town itself is very small with not much to do (although does have a couple of cracking souvenir shops!), however, is a good base.
I went on a boat trip that was lovely and tranquil and there is alot of birdlife around to see (and hear).
Also worth taking the short trip over and see the glowworm caves.
Nice little place overall.

As massive glacial lakes go, this has to be one of the most impressive. It's huge, it's picturesque, and its shoreline supports a whole host of businesses that exploit the lake's surface. There's any number of boating & sports experiences. Or you go and see the glow-worm caves. The town of Te Anau is a lively place, although not huge.

So peaceful, so tranquil. Enjoyed my couple of hours walking along it. Walked from town to the flood gates.

Although it hasn't got the stunning colourness of Lake Pukaki and Tekapo, this is a majestic Lake. First because it surrounds the beautiful town of Te Anau and then because it comes along with you in the route to MIlford Sound. Again, Te Anaua and its lake is a must when coming to New Zealand

The water is clear as crystal, we just had to jump in! Swam for around 45mins, chilly but comfortable. Great views!

Lake Te Anau is located on South Island of New Zealand.

It is the second-largest lake by surface area in New Zealand and the largest in the South Island. It is the largest lake in Australasia by fresh water volume.

The lake was just a short walk from our accomodation in Te Anau.

We saw a seaplane on the lake and our glowworm tour departed by boat from here. The glowworms are a must visit attraction.

Its very scenic with the mountains as a backdrop.

There is also much wildlife on lake.
