My wife and I really enjoyed this small bird sanctuary. It was walking distance from our hotel and right on the path that leads around the lake.

A great way to spend an hour before dinner in Te Anau on a nice evening. Would be neat to bring the grandkids here some time.

This place was amazing. The sanctuary is well-maintained and all the birds look to be in great shape. There are 2 Takahe and a few Kakas at the Sanctuaries. A good place to wind down and relax after Milford Sound. Do donate generously at the...More

Walked along the waterfront & found this by accident just after the visitor centre. Free to enter & some interesting birds to see, one of the staff was feeding some of the birds & chatted to us about them.

This is a worthwhile walk around the gardens to see the different types of endangered birds. There is a lot of information about the birds and what is being done to try and increase bird numbers and reduce predators such as stoats and rats.

I didn't think it was possible to talk so long about nothing, but I saw and heard it. the guide was definitely boring. So much so visitors left before the feeding. Apart from that, worth watching the birds.

The sanctuary is well laid out, and the cages large enough for the birds to fly around in. Entry is fee but a gold coin is appreciated - I think they're operating this bird sanctuary on a shoestring so any donation would be welcome. They're...More
