We had a great time! Punctual pick up, very clean and comfortable vehicle, nice and knowledgeable tour guide. Saw many large buses along the way and loved that we were in a smaller van/group. We felt very safe on the roads, despite the rain and (unexpected) summer snow! Our driver stopped at all the best locations, which also broke up the drive. We got back to Te Anau around 4:30.
We did the Nature Cruise which was a bit longer and enjoyed it. The boat had free tea and coffee upon arrival. We bought paninis on the boat for lunch which were pretty good. The boat guide was great and pointed out when we should step outside since it was cold and rainy. It cleared up toward the end and because of the morning rain, the waterfalls were beautiful!
Highly recommend staying in Te Anau or Manapouri to break up the drive to Milford from Queenstown. We would not have wanted to sit on a bus for 4+ hours each way, so this was perfect. Plus, these towns are so cute and quaint.

As part of a 3 week trip around the South Island my wife and I had always wanted to do a trip to Milford Sound. We chose VIP Tour because of their great reviews and were not disappointed.
By arrangement Reece picked us up in an 18 seat tour van from our accommodation. There were a total of 11 in our bus that day. We had paid for a packed lunch which was worth the extra small cost.
Reece, the friendly driver was a fountain of knowledge having done the tour for over 20 years. The scenery was amazing; we stopped at various places going to and on the way back from Milford Sound so Reece could show us various points of interest.
Given that in the peak tourist times before Covid there were daily, approx 100 buses going to and fro from Milford but on our day there was our group plus a small group from another bus in the car park at Milford which had spaces for scores of buses.
On our boat trip I counted about 25 people including a few kids. The boat's captain through out the trip told us of various points of interest pointing out penguins on the shore, seals basking on the rocks or pods of dolphins which came up to the side of the boat and put a real show on. You could almost reach out and touch them.
We were lucky in that the day was brilliantly fine and the sea was calm. There were the usual waterfalls to see and these are amazing but of course when it is raining there are a lot more.
All in all it was an amazing trip which we thoroughly enjoyed and would recommend to anyone.

A fabulous tour today. We had Reece and he was so lovely, informative and an all around awesome guy. We had a party of six highly recommend!

This tour company is outstanding. The coach, the stops along the way, the boat trip with Mitre Peak cruises were all perfect. We have travelled a lot and there are some experiences that you will never forget. Even though we are New Zealanders we were blown away. A huge thanks to Reece the driver, so safe and knowledgeable with a great personality. We could not have asked for more,

Milford Sound is a must if you're travelling in the South Island, and VIP Milford tours were great. We had Steven as our guide - he was so knowledgeable and picked up on the interests of the group to tailor his commentary. The cruise was great too - smaller boat and perfectly timed with the van's arrival.

Really great tour. Our driver Steven was very friendly and knowledgeable. I have done a day trip to Milford before by bus from Queenstown... that's a long day! I highly recommend staying in Te Anau and taking a day trip with VIP Milford instead. It's more personable and you're not stuck on a bus all day.

This is value for money and well worth doing. We got collected by Reece on time and then collected the remaining customers. It was roughly two hours driving from Te Anau to Milford with a couple of photo stops and very good commentary on the way. The cruise was excellent through the sound with commentary provided by the skipper. The weather was not best but still worth doing, spectacular scenery packed into a small piece of paradise. After the cruise you drive back to Te Anau. Reece was very good, friendly, informative and passionate about fiordland.

We will be in Te Anau sometime in June, traveling by Motorhome so our exacts dates are unsure. We are a family of four and would want k book a tour into Milford sound. Will there be any chance if booking mat minute? Like a day or two in advance ? June 10-15?

Also, we booked with VIP Milford Sound Tour just the day prior to our tour and we were able to get on. It was in March, so it was maybe even higher tourist season. Their website also includes a booking calendar so you can see if and when days are being booked up.
