Fantastic kiwi spotting trip with Johnny. Becks and Feathers have a private area on the island they have access to so there arent other groups or people. We were fortunate to see chick, sub adult, territorial dispute, adult kiwis. A great experience.

Thanks for the great review. We are happy you enjoyed your kiwi spotting experience with Johnny. Beaks and Feathers are fortunate to have exclusive access to such an awesome area for kiwi spotting, with a good number of obliging wild kiwi. Sounds like you saw quite a range of kiwi too, from chicks through to adults 😊

We had the absolute pleasure of doing the early morning Kiwi spotting with Ang and the Ulva Island walk with Johnny. Ang was the all knowing Kiwi expert and we managed to spot 10 Kiwi on the morning we happened to go out with her. She was full of amazing Kiwi and Stewart Island facts and we finished up knowing far more than we did before, as well as seeing Kiwi in their natural habitat for the very first time. The Ulva Island walk with Johnny was just as enjoyable and full of all the local forna and bird life. This is definitely the company to do these things with. Apparently Johnny does snorkelling tours in the summer and if they are even half as good as the island walk was with him, it’ll be fabulous!! A must do!

I kept on telling my friends about how many kiwi I saw (7) on the night spotting tour, and added in all the facts and emotion that Mel (the tour guide) provided and now they've stopped talking to me. I know they're just jealous but it still hurts a tad. It's fine though because every time I close my eyes my new constant companions are there with their cute lil beaks and fluffy lil feathers, and in truth I doubt I will ever feel lonely again. Yeap on the whole a great tour with a super friendly and knowledgeable guide who had a genuine passion for the critters. Best tour on the island of the kind by far and the best way to get yourself that kiwi tick and validate yourself as an Aotearoan. Now all I gotta do is persuade my friends to go and maybe they'll start talking to me again. Chur.

Thanks for this epic review Alex! 😂 Has to be the funniest review yet, which gave us all a laugh, We are so glad you enjoyed your kiwi spotting experience with Beaks and Feathers, even if your friends aren’t talking to you. They will come around one day I’m sure. If not, feel free to come see us again and we can take you back up to see your new fluffy feathered mates. 👍🏼😊

We recently had THE BEST experience on the nighttime kiwi spotting tour! This was a bucket list experience for us and it over delivered in all aspects. We are a family of four (with 7 yo twins) & signed up thinking how fabulous it would be to see just one or two wild kiwi from afar. Well, not only did we encounter FIVE kiwi (one of which slowly meandered right up to our group and then wandered right on past us), we also spotted a tiny one month old chick! Having lived in NZ our whole lives yet never having seen a kiwi in the wild it was incredible. The guide was fabulous, super informative & very sensitive to the needs of the kiwi letting the kiwi dictate the terms of the encounter. For those with younger children, as long as your kids can handle wandering around in the dark with only a tiny amount of red torchlight & are old enough to be relied on to stay still & perfectly quiet when a kiwi is spotted don’t hesitate to book. Thanks for such an unforgettable experience our family will never forget.

Thanks so much for your great review. It’s such a privilege to be able to show New Zealanders our iconic kiwi in the wild. Each of our kiwi spotting guides endeavour to make sure each person on our tours see kiwi while putting the kiwis well-being as the top priority. We are glad you enjoyed your time spent with us. 😊
