These recent reviews are right on the mark! We arrived at Oban yesterday morning (via ferry) having no clue what to do but ran into Furhana who gave us a number of options and took onto account how long we had and the weather. She was very welcoming and we immediately felt positive about whatever lay ahead. As the weather was nice we opted for a trip to the Norwegian whaling base which was superb. Furhana is an excellent guide who clearly knows her stuff. Later we joined with another family of 4 for kiwi spotting. After an informative session with Furhana in her (warm) office we headed out and within an hour she'd found one. We got out and the large female spent 20 minutes or so wandering around us on the hunt for food. Absolutely amazing. Furhana had explained exactly what to do and so the kiwi wasn't scared off. We have no hesitation in recommending this company for any Stewart Island tour. We'd do it all again.

Donna and Peter - thank you so much for getting in touch on your honeymoon. I was thrilled that you decided to come on our Norwegian Whalers' Base Cruise on the spur of the moment. A lovely afternoon and an enchanting forest to wonder through as shown by the fantastic pictures that everyone took. The lighting on a sunny, winter's afternoon left us all in awe and was very memorable. I hope you will be back again - a kiwi spotting trip is waiting for you. I wish you both the very best in your married life together - Furhana

Furhana our guide really knows her stuff. She is so knowledgeable not just about birds, plants and wildlife, but all the history of Stewart Island, Ulva Island, New Zealand and everything dating back to pre-historic times and the effects that has had on the eco-system we were walking through. Not only did we learn a lot, but we got to see an amazing array of birds and plant life. Highly recommend going with Ruggedy Range if you are looking for tours in Stewart Island.

Many thanks for your review and for allowing me to guide you on Ulva Island. It is terrific to have New Zealanders join my guided walks and to go away with a better appreciation of this amazing country and its abundant natural history. There is so much to learn, enjoy and be inspired by in the great outdoors. So thank you once again for taking the guided tour rather than wondering on your own. Best wishes - Furhana

My time on Rakiura exceeded expectations thanks to the professionalism of Furhana at Ruggedy Range. She communicated well in advance of my arrival to arrange trips for me to participate in that would satisfy my interests. The visit to Ulva island was awesome. We spent 4 hours there and Furhana’s deep knowledge of the flora and fauna made it very special. I saw rare birds and plants I would have missed without her guidance but also learned so much about them, and our history - both that of our country and the planet. The Kiwi spotting was done brilliantly. Had Furhana not maintained professional control of our group we would not have had the close and quality time we enjoyed following 2 Kiwi; an adult female and, separately, a young Kiwi. For Furhana this is clearly much more than just running a business. She thinks and cares deeply about the island, the plants and bird life and that shines through in the way she runs her tours. As well as the above Furhana gave me great tips for other things to do with my time on Rakiura including biking out to Lee Bay and running out along the Rakiura track to Māori Bay which was a wonderful way to spend a morning.

We did two different trips with Furhana and they were amazing. We went kiwi spotting with her and had an amazing experience with a kiwi, within 2 meters! She is so knowledgeable about the birds of Stewart Island, it made it very special. Then we asked her to show us kaka, a native parrot, up close. It was a complicated request but she handled it with grace and skill while warning us it might not be possible. She did make it happen and it was magical. Furhana has been doing this for 22 years and she knows Stewart Island inside out. I cannot recommend it highly enough.

Many thanks for taking time to review my tours. I loved having you and both join my trips and the chance to join in a more relaxed conversation. The kiwi experience was really quirky with all the ocurrences we had that evening and haven't experienced since. As for the kaka - a lovely display and enchanting time. Thank you for waiting for me to head back to my office after my tours and to take a moment to see what II could offer you. Best wishes with all the studies and writing - Furhana
